Vehicle Story

This 1968 Chevrolet Corvette is one of 18,630 convertibles produced in its model year. It has reportedly covered 83K miles since new and draws power from a numbers-matching L79 327ci V8 paired with a rebuilt carburetor and a Muncie M20 4-speed manual gearbox. Under previous ownership, the exterior was repainted in its original color in 1980. Features include chrome bumpers, pop-up headlights, a black manual convertible top with a plastic rear window, and Rally wheels equipped with new Cooper tires. Several other parts, such as the brakes, wheel cylinders, battery, and alternator, have also been replaced. The cabin offers bucket seating for two, a center console, a Pioneer radio with a cassette player, manual windows, and covered storage compartments. Refinished in Corvette Bronze with a black convertible top over a black vinyl interior, this first-year C3 Corvette is available now and comes from the selling dealer with a clear title.

For the 1968 model year, Chevrolet released a third-generation Corvette with an all-new exterior inspired by the Mako Shark II concept car and a redesigned interior. This convertible from the first year of the C3 version of "America's Sports Car" was repainted in factory-correct Corvette Bronze (paint code 992) 42 years ago. As the pictures in the gallery to the right show, the driver-quality finish has imperfections and blemishes in certain areas. Features include chrome bumpers, pop-up headlights, fender vents, a driver-side mirror, a black convertible top with a plastic rear window, quad round taillights, and dual exhaust outlets. According to the selling dealer, the front bumper is new, but the two-piece rear bumper shows signs of patina. In addition, the hood needs to be realigned.

A set of Rally wheels with derby-style center caps and new Cooper Cobra Radial G/T tires connect this C3 Corvette to the road.

The all-black cabin is furnished with a pair of vinyl bucket seats divided by a center console, door panels with metallic trim, carpeting, and a carpeted rear storage area with three covered compartments. Wear is visible in certain areas, including the driver's seat and the rear carpeting, and is shown in the photo gallery. Equipment includes manual windows, a radio with a cassette player, and a center console.

Behind the wood-rimmed steering wheel is a 160-mph speedometer and a 7K-rpm tachometer. The 5-digit odometer shows 83K miles. The center stack contains an analog clock and readouts for the fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and battery's charge level.

Under the front-hinged hood is a reportedly numbers-matching L79 327ci V8 connected to a Muncie M20 4-speed manual transmission. The selling dealer states the engine has been serviced and had its fluids changed, 4-barrel carburetor rebuilt, and battery and alternator replaced. Other updates include an alignment, the brakes and wheels cylinders being replaced, and the gas tank being flushed.
