This 1971 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia is powered by a rear-mounted 1600cc flat-four air-cooled engine backed by a 4-speed manual transmission. Features include bucket seats, independent front and rear suspension, a 12-volt electrical system, and an aftermarket Clarion cassette stereo. This yellow VW with a black vinyl interior is available now and comes with a clear California title in the seller's name.
The exterior is finished in the reportedly original factory yellow paint and has chrome and stainless trim, emblems, and handles. Chip damage can be seen on the right front fender and door. The chrome front bumper with bumper guards and over-riders is mounted below the dual headlamps, grilles, and amber front turn signals. A chrome rear bumper with bumper guards and over-riders is located below the rear tail lamps with integrated reverse lights, license plate lamp, and red reflectors. The rear window has a defroster. According to the seller, rust can be seen underneath the car and on the edges of the doors.
The silver steel wheels with trim rings and dog dish hubcaps are wrapped in radial tires.
The front bucket seats as well as the matching full-width rear seat are upholstered with black vinyl. Black vinyl covers the door panels and the rear interior trim panels. A white pinhole headliner and white vinyl sun visors can be seen above. Gray carpet covers the entire cabin floor. The steel dashboard is covered with a wood veneer overlay which is showing delamination due to age, particularly on the glovebox area to the right of the dashboard. A black vinyl pad is mounted on top of the dashboard. The black locking steering column is topped with a black steering wheel with a half horn ring and VW-logo horn button. The 4-speed manual transmission shifter is located on the tunnel between the front bucket seats.
This model comes equipped with a 90-mph speedometer with a 5-digit odometer, fuel gauge, and clock. The seller states that the 61K miles shown are accurate.
A rear-mounted and air-cooled 1600cc flat-four engine backed by a 4-speed manual transmission provides power to the rear wheels. Air cleaner parts, a carburetor, a vapor canister, a coil, spark plug wires, and doghouse cooling hoses are in place. An Optima Yellowtop battery is mounted in the engine compartment. A new starter was installed and an oil change and some electrical work was completed two months ago, according to the seller.
This Karmann Ghia comes equipped with independent front and rear suspension. The suspension, floor pans, and underbody are wearing most of the original black paint and undercoating.

@Snowrunner – Would car make a trip to minnesota. ...
That’s a good question and I’m not sure how best to answer it. It’s a reliable runner at the moment, but I’ve only ever used it to cruise around town. To be honest, I don’t think I’d ever try to push any older car from CA to MN, regardless of condition. But that’s just me. I’d always be inclined to transport it that distance.
@6025173379 – 1 is this a running driving car? 2 condition of engine and trans? no smoke or major leaks? ...
1/ yes, this is a running car. 2/ generally in good condition. I brought it in for a general inspection and maintenance (Kombihaus in Sacramento) and they didn’t identify any engine or transmission issue. They did replace the ignition and some other electrical.
