Vehicle Story

This 1969 Mercury Cougar XR7 luxury pony car has been owned by the seller for 43 years and receives power from a rebuilt 351ci Windsor V8 paired with a rebuilt 3-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes mag wheels, a vinyl top, a Kenwood audio system, a Grant steering wheel, and woodgrain interior trim. Finished in cranberry red with a black vinyl top over a matching vinyl interior, this first-generation Cougar is now offered with a clear California title in the seller's name.

Launched as a high-end pony car in 1967, the Cougar was derived from the Ford Mustang and offered initially as a two-door hardtop, with a convertible added as an available body style later on. A mid-cycle refresh was carried out in 1969 with revised body lines. This rust-free Cougar hardtop from that year shows fade and blemishes consistent with its age. Features include quad headlamps, a full-width grille, hood retention pins, sweeping side moldings, and sequential turn signals.

Mag 14-inch five-slot aluminum wheels are wrapped in 195/75 front and 220/70 rear tires.

The interior is fitted with reupholstered cranberry red vinyl seating, matched to the lap belts, door panels, dash, headliner, and carpeting. The dashboard features a woodgrain applique around the instruments and along the passenger side. Amenities include a Kenwood AM/FM/CD player, tinted windows, a wood-rimmed Grant steering wheel, a carpeted dash pad, and a Lo-Jack system.

Instrumentation consists of a 120-mph speedometer, 6K-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for the fuel level, voltage, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 92K miles, which the seller asserts is original although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.

The rebuilt 351ci Windsor V8 received a new fuel pump and water pump. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a floor-shifted 3-speed Select-Shift automatic transmission.

@Delorean1 – Hi there : Do you have the stock wheels? ...

Hello thank you for taking interest in my car. I've owned this car for 43 years and the previous person that owned was my uncle. To answer your question when my uncles first bought it, the car came with the stock wheels it currently has. So I'm not too sure if these are the original. What I can tell you is that they are the same ones for over 50 yrs. These are alloy wheels.

For some reason they're not uploading on here. Do you have access to classiccars.com? If you I was able to upload them there.
