Vehicle Story

This 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air 2-door hardtop is finished in Matador Red over India Ivory two-tone over a red and black vinyl interior. Power is provided by a 283ci V8 paired with dual 4 barrel carburetors paired with a 3-speed manual transmission. Located in South Jordan, Utah, the car has been with the current owner for 20 years. Equipment includes AM radio, dual exhaust, and power steering. This Bel Air is now offered for sale on a clean Utah title in the seller’s name.

The car has been fully refinished in its original color configuration of two-tone Matador Red and India Ivory during the restoration process in 2009. The car features chrome throughout, including bumpers, side moldings, and tail fins, all of which has either been repolished, re-chromed, or replaced. The Bel Air package-specific gold trim accents including the “V” emblems and Bel Air scripts are all present and in good condition. Additional features include dual door-mounted chrome sideview mirrors and an antenna mounted on the top of the quarter panel.

Factory 14” steel wheels are with chrome hubcaps featuring faux knock-off spinners with bowtie emblems and are mounted to BF Goodrich Silvertown wide whitewall replica tires on all four corners. Installed in 2019, the tires have seen minimal usage since. Braking is provided by factory spec drums all around.

The interior features a bench seating upholstered in red vinyl with black patterned cloth inserts with silver piping. The door panels are upholstered to match while the carpet is solid black with red rubber floormats. The dash is finished in red to match the exterior and houses a factory style radio and controls for the heater along with a metal trim plate across the face. Additional features include roll-down windows and red lap belts.

Instrumentation is housed within a color-matched red bezel and includes a 120-mph speedometer, flanked by gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. Warning lights are present for voltage and oil pressure as well. A clock is housed within the dash above the glove compartment door. The five-digit odometer reads 90k miles, true mileage is unknown.

The 283ci V8 is optioned with dual four-barrel carburetors and solid lifters., and was factory rated at 270 hp when new. Factory correctness was heavily emphasized during the restoration, with attention to detail on the usage of right battery, stickers, hoses, clamps, and other details from when the car was new. The engine bay was prepped and painted along with numerous other components like the engine block, heads, valve covers and air cleaner. Power is sent to the rear wheels through the column shifted 3-speed manual transmission.

The underside of the car was restored to factory specifications with the floorplans sprayed in red oxide with correct overspray and all other components finished in black. Additional photos are available in the gallery.
