This 1962 Chevrolet Impala two-door hardtop was put through a frame-off restoration and received a performance-upgraded big-block 502ci V8 with Edelbrock heads, dual Holley carburetors, a high-volume fuel pump, and a heavy-duty cooling system. Torque is fed to a Moser Engineering drag-pack rear end through a Tremec 5-speed manual transmission. Finished in black over a matching black vinyl interior, this third-generation Impala is now offered by the selling dealer with a clear title.
The full-sized Impala model got its start in the late 1950s as Chevrolet’s flagship. By 1961, the Impala had been revised into its third generation on the General Motors B platform with more squared-off styling compared to prior models. This Impala two-door hardtop from 1962 was refinished in black and has quad headlights, a cowl induction hood with retention pins, a vinyl roof, a dual exhaust system, and brightwork for the bumpers, grille, bezels, and other trim pieces.
The aluminum wheels are set up in a staggered arrangement and equipped with tires with black sidewall lettering. The race-tuned suspension uses Hotchkiss equipment with 2-inch drop spindles. The chassis has been mini-tubbed at the rear. The manual braking system has front discs.
The cabin is furnished with black vinyl bucket front seats, matched to the door panels, dash, carpeting, and rear bench seat. Amenities include an Ididit tilt-adjustable steering column, a radio, aluminum dash trim, and Impala-branded floor mats.
Instrumentation includes a sweeping 120-mph speedometer and auxiliary AutoMeter gauges. The five-digit mechanical odometer tracks mileage, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
The big-block 502ci V8 has been upgraded with Edelbrock heads, a .640-lift roller camshaft, an air-gap intake, and dual Holley 500-cfm carburetors. Cooling comes from a Be Cool radiator. Additional equipment includes a new fuel tank with baffles and a high-volume fuel pump. Power is fed to the rear wheels via a floor-shifted Tremec 5-speed manual transmission and a Moser Engineering drag-pack rear end with 4.11 gearing.
Several photos showing the underside of the vehicle are available in the carousel to the right.
