Vehicle Story

This 1951 Ford Country Squire woody station wagon has a new headliner, a wooden dash, a spotlight, and whitewall tires. Its authentic exterior woodgrain paneling design is accompanied by a continental kit at the rear and brightwork surrounding the exterior. Power comes from a rebuilt 239ci flathead V8 coupled with a 3-speed manual transmission with overdrive and a new clutch. Finished in metallic blue with woodgrain paneling over a tan vinyl interior, this first-generation Country Squire is now offered with a clear California title in the seller’s name.

The Country Squire was positioned as the top-level station wagon of the Ford lineup when it debuted in 1950 on a full-size chassis, sharing architecture with the Custom Deluxe model. This Country Squire two-door woody station wagon from 1951 was repainted metallic blue in select areas and is adorned with true wood paneling attached to the body from the doors rearward. The exterior is additionally accented with brightwork for the bumpers, headlight rings, and driver-side spotlight. Features include split front and rear windows, Country Squire script badging, a continental kit on the split-fold tailgate, and a dual exhaust system.

Body-color steel wheels with bright hubcaps are wrapped in whitewall tires.

The interior is fitted with two rows of tan vinyl bench seats, a new headliner, and black flooring material. The door panels and dash face are trimmed with woodgrain. The rear cargo area has a flat floor. Amenities include a push-button radio, brown lap belts, a dash-mounted clock, and a Magic Air under-dash air conditioner.

Vehicle information is provided by a central 100-mph speedometer surrounded by gauges for the fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and voltage. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads fewer than 4K miles, although the true mileage on the chassis is unknown.

The rebuilt 239ci flathead V8 features aluminum heads. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a column-shifted 3-speed manual transmission with overdrive and a new clutch.

1. Was this car a original Woody or retro wood over metal? 2. Does the heater blower work and will the heater core hold water? 3. Do all the lites, wipers, speedo & odometer work. 4. Does the car overheat on hot California days?
