This performance-upgraded 1987 Buick Regal Grand National has a rebuilt 3.8-liter turbocharged V6 with a list of enhancements including a Billet TE60 turbo, Harland Sharp roller rockers, a Bison roller cam, Johnson Lifters lifters, and JE forged pistons. The dyno-tested powerplant has been rated at 416 horsepower and sends power to a pair of Weld Racing wheels at the rear through a rebuilt 4-speed automatic transmission with a transmission cooler and custom driveshaft. This car was reportedly southern-owned long-term and has been with the seller for the past 12 years. Refinished in Black over a two-tone black and gray cloth interior, this Grand National is now offered with documentation, a build sheet, a replica window sticker, uninstalled spare OEM and aftermarket parts, a clean CARFAX report, and a clear Wisconsin title in the seller’s name.
The first Regal was introduced to the marketplace in 1973 on the General Motors A-body platform as a coupe or sedan. A second generation came out five years later with downsized proportions and modified trim. One of the available variants was the Grand National, named after the NASCAR Winston Cup Grand National Series. The Grand National came with unique aerodynamic equipment, exterior trim, and powertrains. This upgraded example from 1987 was repainted in the 1990s to the original Black. The bumperettes have been removed, the emblems have been replaced, and the rear wheel well openings have been rolled. The exterior features a color-matched grille, quad headlights, a chin spoiler, sport mirror caps, a flush-mounted spoiler, and a custom dual exhaust system. The seller notes that there are some small scratches and dings consistent with the age of the paint finish.
Polished aluminum Weld Racing RT-S wheels are wrapped in staggered-sized tires.
The black and gray interior comes with replacement seat covers for the front buckets and uninstalled door panels. Amenities include a center console, power door locks, a Grand National-branded steering wheel hub, a cup holder, a modern JVC AM/FM/CD audio system, and embroidered headrests. The seller notes that the driver-side power door lock is not working and the power radio antenna is inoperative.
Vehicle information is provided through a replacement AutoMeter digital speedometer, an inoperative fuel gauge, and an aftermarket three-gauge A-pillar pod with two gauges actively being used. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 54K miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown. An uninstalled two-gauge pod will be included with the sale.
The reportedly numbers-matching, rebuilt 3.8-liter turbocharged V6 has performance upgrades that include a Billet TE60 turbo with a Garrett housing, Harland Sharp 1.55-ratio roller rockers, a Bison roller cam, Johnson Lifters lifters, upgraded push rods, JE forged pistons, and ARP head studs. The fuel delivery system uses a Holley Dominator setup, smart coils, 160-lb Holley injectors, a remote pressure regulator, and a double-pumper with two DW300 fuel pumps. Additional equipment includes TA Performance race headers, a 3-inch downpipe, and a 2.5-inch ATR Pit Bull exhaust. The engine received an oil change within the last 100 miles and has been dyno-tested at 416 horsepower and 476 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a rebuilt console-shifted 4-speed automatic transmission with a transmission cooler, shift kit, and custom 3-inch driveshaft with a 1350-to-3R U-joint. Additional parts include a TA Performance rear-end girdle, billet input shaft, and billet 4th-gear planetary and ring gears.
The suspension uses QA1 dual-rate coilovers both front and rear, along with HR Parts adjustable upper control arms and fixed lower control arms at the rear. Additional equipment includes a BMR Suspension sway bar, JT Raceshop upper and lower control arm braces, and Moser 28-spline C-clip axles.
The CARFAX report shows no accidents or damage reported, with the most recent record appearing in March of 2012. The sale includes a two-gauge A-pillar pod, a Holley touchscreen interface, an A/C box, additional uninstalled stock and aftermarket parts, documentation, a build sheet, and a replica window sticker.
