This 1972 Chevrolet El Camino has been driven fewer than 200 miles since undergoing a frame-off restoration finished two years ago that included diamond-stitched and embroidered bucket seats, a custom audio and navigation system, Centerline wheels with newer BFGoodrich tires, new suspension hardware, and a powder-coated frame. The 383ci stroker V8 is outfitted with a Holley carburetor, an aluminum radiator, and ceramic-coated headers. Power is sent to the back wheels through a racing-specification TH400 3-speed automatic transmission. Finished in metallic gray with black striping over a black and gray vinyl/black fabric interior, this third-generation El Camino restomod is now offered with a clear California title.
The El Camino, first introduced in 1959, was known as a coupe utility vehicle and utilized underpinnings from Chevrolet two-door station wagons combined with a cargo bed and a two-seat cab. Its third iteration debuted in 1968 on a longer wheelbase resulting in a 116-inch overall length. The A-body platform underwent changes in the following years that incorporated more squared-off styling and revised marker lighting. This El Camino from that year has a straight, rust-free body that was repainted metallic gray. The front clip features an SS badge and a cowl induction hood with black racing stripes and retention pins. The body has a clean side profile that is free of moldings. A bed liner has been added to the cargo area.
Polished aluminum Centerline wheels are currently wrapped in newer BFGoodrich tires, according to the seller, although the image carousel shows older photos of Goodyear Eagle GTII rubber.
The custom cab is fitted with dual bucket seats in black and gray vinyl and diamond-stitched black fabric inserts. Features include a center console, billet steering wheel, and Viper alarm system with two remotes. The audio system uses an auxiliary battery and offers navigation, CarPlay connectivity, two SPL (Sound Performance Lab) amplifiers, two Pioneer subwoofers, and upgraded speakers. An air conditioning compressor is installed but not yet operational.
Instrumentation is laid out across a silver dash fascia and includes an aftermarket 140-mph speedometer, tachometer, and auxiliary readouts for the fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The odometer currently reads 170 miles, although the true overall mileage on the chassis is unknown.
The upgraded 383ci stroker V8 and engine bay are dressed in a variety of billet components. Performance equipment includes ceramic-coated headers, a Holley carburetor, an aluminum radiator, and muffler cut-outs. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a TH400 3-speed automatic transmission.
The suspension, bushings, shock absorbers, and front disc brakes were replaced as part of the refurbishment. Additional photos showing the powder-coated frame and underside are available in the carousel.
The seller has provided a two-minute video showing the exterior, interior, and mechanical conditions of the vehicle in the gallery.
