This 1966 Ford Mustang convertible is presented by the seller as a true GT model and features front disc brakes, exterior ornamentation, fog lamps, full gauges, styled wheels, and dual exhaust outlets that exit through the lower rear fascia. It is powered by a 289ci V8 paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission and is equipped with power steering. Finished in an older black repaint with red accents over a two-tone black and red vinyl interior, this first-generation Mustang is now offered with a snap-on convertible boot and a clear title in the current owner's name.
Known internally as the T5 project, the original Mustang borrowed engineering from other Ford models, including the Falcon, when it was launched in mid-1964. It was the pioneer of what later became known as the pony car segment and had styling with long-hood, short-deck proportions. The 1966 model year brought small changes to the grille and ornamentation. This Mustang convertible from that year reportedly came from the factory with pale yellow paint, but now wears an older repaint in black with red accent striping. Features include fog lamps, GT badging, dual bright mirror caps, a black power-operated top, and polished dual exhaust outlets. The overall exterior finishes are described as being driver-grade but not concours-quality. The seller notes some cracking and chips consistent with an older paint job.
The reportedly original 14-inch steel wheels with red center caps are wrapped in tires with black sidewall lettering.
The pony-package interior is fitted with reupholstered two-tone black and red vinyl low-back bucket seats at the front combined with a bench in the rear, matched to the door panels, red lap belts, black dash pad, and black carpeting. The dash face has simulated woodgrain panels and houses a JVC AM/FM/cassette radio.
Instrumentation includes Rally package gauges with a central 140-mph speedometer, 6K-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for the fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 57K miles, although the true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
The 289ci V8 sends power to the rear wheels via a floor-shifted 3-speed automatic transmission.
Stopping power comes from front disc brakes and rear drums. Steering is power-assisted.
The sale includes a black vinyl snap-on convertible boot.

Do you have a picture of the door tag and VIN stamping?
@bulldogwayne – Thanks, underneath rocker panels are usually a place where rust starts. If you could provide photos of both of them that would be great! History…do you know what states this vehicle has been in besides NC? Thanks ...
I bought it from an estate in N C I believe it has been here for over 45 years. I do not know where it was before that. thanks
@wgilks – I understand your concern. Being a convertible the right rear floor pan has been replaced also the torque boxes have been repaired. I do see some rust on left rear wheel well . I will add photos asap thanks ...
