This restored rust-free 1948 Lincoln Continental is reportedly one of 847 produced for this model year and has its original 292ci flathead V12 and original 3-speed manual transmission with overdrive, according to the seller. Features include driving lamps, a rear-mounted spare tire carrier, hydraulic power windows, color-matched fender skirts, a heater, and an AM radio. This refinished Opal Blue-Green Continental with a two-tone green vinyl and cloth interior is available now and comes with an uninstalled body-color rear spare tire cover, additional uninstalled body-color parts, receipts, and a clear California title.
Under previous ownership in 1989, this Lincoln was refinished in its reportedly original Opal Blue-Green paint and equipped with re-plated chrome trim by Drennen Restorations of Hines, West Virginia. Features include chrome bumpers with overriders, a chrome grille, driving lights, dual headlights, chrome mirror caps, rocker trim, a rear-mounted spare tire with a body-color cover, and color-matched skirts.
A set of body-color steel wheels with Lincoln-branded hub caps and trim rings is wrapped in new whitewall radial tires, According to the seller, the tires were installed 11 miles ago at a reported cost of $1,600.
The front bench seat, rear seat, trim, and door panels are covered with dark green vinyl and light green cloth. According to the seller, the seats were reupholstered and new green carpeting was installed under previous ownership. Features include hydraulic power windows, an AM radio, a heater, a green steel dashboard, manual steering and brakes, and a maroon 2-spoke steering wheel with a horn ring. The seller notes there are stains on the carpet in front of the driver's seat and the heater was re-cored in 2020.
A 110-mph speedometer and gauges for the water temperature, oil pressure, amperage, and fuel level are mounted ahead of the driver. The odometer reads 64,541 miles but the true mileage is unknown. The seller has added 100 miles during their two years of ownership.
Power is provided by the original 292ci flathead V12 and processed by the original 3-speed manual transmission with overdrive, according to the seller. Underhood features include manual steering and brake hardware, a single carburetor with an offset air cleaner, and hydraulic window lift controls. The seller reports the engine was overhauled in the 1990s. The carburetor and water pumps were rebuilt and a new overdrive solenoid, thermostat, radiator hoses, spark plugs, and battery were installed in 2020.
In 2020, the gas tank was etched and re-sealed, the mechanical fuel pump was rebuilt, and a new sending unit and hoses were installed. In addition, a replacement drag link was installed, the master cylinder was rebuilt, the drums were turned, and the rear wheel cylinders and hoses were replaced. The restored undercarriage features a solid front axle and solid rear drive axle. The front underbody and inner fender wells are color-matched to the exterior. The frame, suspension components, floor pans, and rear underbody are finished in matte black. A factory-routed single exhaust exits at the rear of the body. Additional photos can be seen in the carousel to the right.
Receipts, an uninstalled body-color rear spare tire cover, and additional uninstalled body-color parts will be included with the sale.

A little more detail on the car from the museum it was purchased from: his example sold new from Star Auto Sales in Cedar Grove, West Virginia, and stayed in the area all of its life. The former owners, Mary & Eugene Morris, purchased this beautifully survived Continental in May 1989 and brought the Lincoln home to Glasgow, WV. Soon afterward, they commissioned a complete cosmetic and mechanical restoration by Drennon Restoration based in Hines, WV. This included a full engine and transmission overhaul, all new cloth-covered wiring, beautiful new interior upholstery and carpet, complete exterior repaint in the original color, re-plated chrome, and more! The results were enjoyed for several years, and as they got older, the car ended up parked in their garage under cover for the better part of the past decade. The St. Louis Car Museum would purchase this worthy example in early 2020 for complete re-commissioning to make roadworthy once again. With a methodical effort to ensure all vital components were in working order, our expert repair team began with the removal of the gas tank. It was professionally cleaned, etched, and sealed before being re-installed with new sending unit, rebuilt mechanical fuel pump with new internal diaphragm, new fuel filter, and new hoses to a freshly rebuilt carburetor with new float. Both water pumps were sent to Skip Haney in Florida for professional rebuilds, and installed with fresh gaskets. The driver's side heater unit was re-cored, and the radiator received new upper & lower hoses/clamps, thermostats, and fresh coolant. The engine received new spark plugs, new oil & filter, and point gap reset. Next was the brakes and suspension with rebuilt master cylinder, new rear wheel cylinders, all new brake hoses, drums turned, shoes cleaned & adjusted, as well as a new drag link up front. All suspension components were greased and lubed. A brand new battery and new overdrive solenoid were included in the process. The car starts with ease, shifts wonderfully with a fully functional overdrive, brakes straight and confident, and performs terrifically overall. The Lester Tire Company tires on the vehicle now are serviceable but are old, so it should be noted that the next owner will likely wish to replace them with their brand of choice, whether poly-4 or modern radials. The paint and chrome polished up very nicely and show only the slightest of wear or age. Inside, the upholstery remains in excellent condition with only some minor staining on the carpet forward the driver seat. This is a beautiful classic Lincoln that displays only 64,530 on the odometer today, believed to be actual since new. It will make for a terrific addition to any collection, and a remarkably inexpensive way to participate as a Full Classic in the CCCA Caravan Tours!
