Vehicle Story

This 1957 Willys Jeep CJ-5 was customized to pay tribute to the Willys M38A1 and is powered by a 134ci inline-4 engine backed by a T-90 3-speed manual transmission and a 2-speed transfer case. Features include a quarter-ton Bantam MBT T-3 trailer, four-wheel drive, and a folding windshield. This olive drab Willys Jeep with a khaki canvas top over a saddle vinyl interior is available now and comes with manuals, uninstalled spare parts, and a clear title New York title in the seller’s name.

The exterior of this M38A1 tribute has been finished in olive drab with white decals. Features include a quarter-ton Bantam MBT T-3 trailer, an olive drab front bumper with recovery rope, dual headlights with mesh covers, a convoy blackout light, a folding windshield, a body-color mirror cap, a side-mounted spare tire, a khaki aftermarket canvas top and doors with plastic windows, and a Jerry can. The seller reports the grille and bumpers are original.

A set of olive drab steel wheels is wrapped in Firestone non-directional military tires.

The front bucket seats are upholstered in saddle vinyl. Features include olive drab interior sheet metal, a passenger-side grab handle, floor-mounted manual transmission and transfer case shifters, manual steering and brakes, and an olive drab steel dashboard.

A 90-mph speedometer with integrated coolant temperature and fuel level gauges is located in the dashboard ahead of the driver. An aftermarket pair of Sunpro gauges with oil pressure and voltage readouts is mounted under the dashboard. The odometer currently reads 70,515 miles, but the true mileage on the vehicle is unknown.

Power is provided by a 134ci inline 4-cylinder engine backed by a T-90 3-speed manual transmission and a 2-speed transfer case. The drivetrain is original, according to the seller. Underhood features include an off-set air cleaner, a remote oil filter canister, an olive drab valve cover, and a 12-volt battery with a quick disconnect. The seller reports the high RPMs of engine braking will occasionally cause the gearbox to pop out of second gear.

According to the seller, the frame and suspension are original. This Jeep is factory-equipped with part-time four-wheel-drive, solid axles, and manual locking front hubs. Braking is provided by the reportedly original manual drum brakes.

The seller reports the original registration was for a 1957 model, but the vehicle is currently registered as a 1962 "Transferable Suburban BL". Manuals and spare parts will be included with the sale.

There is relatively little rust on the Willys for a car of this age, maybe a little more on the trailer but not much there as well. Regardless, a "little" is subjective so I would direct you to the third-party photos of the car including its undercarriage.
