Vehicle Story

This 1965 Ford Mustang fastback is a frame-on restoration that has been modified and styled after the GT 2+2 model. It features several new exterior, interior, engine, suspension, and brake components added during the seller's nine years of ownership. These include fresh paint, a TMI interior with a Bluetooth-compatible Custom Autosound radio, American Racing Torq Thrust wheels, power front Wilwood brakes, KYB shocks, and Global West rear subframe connectors. The upgraded 289ci V8 has been bored .40 over and connected to an Edelbrock carburetor and a 4-speed manual gearbox with a Hurst shifter. Refinished in Vintage Burgundy with white stripes over a black vinyl pony interior, this first-generation Mustang is available now with a dyno printout, records, and a clear Washington title in the seller's name.

The exterior has been repainted in factory-correct Vintage Burgundy (color code X) and highlighted with white stripes down the middle of the car and on the lower body sides. Features include body-color front and rear spoilers, chrome bumpers, inboard driving lights, hood pins, a hood scoop, GT badging, side scoops, quarter window louvers, and dual exhausts set in the lower rear fascia. According to the seller, the rubber seals, vent windows, and rear glass are new. They have posted an exterior walk-around video below.

The gray 15" x 7" American Racing Torq Thrust wheels are shod with BFGoodrich Radial T/A raised-white-letter tires.

The interior has been furnished with a new black vinyl TMI pony interior and equipped with an aftermarket wood-rimmed steering wheel, a Mustang GT dashboard, and a Bluetooth-compatible Custom Autosound USA-740 vintage-look radio connected to new 9-inch speakers.

Vehicle information is displayed on an AutoMeter 120-mph speedometer and Ford Racing gauges that include readouts for the oil pressure, coolant temperature, and voltage. The 5-digit mechanical odometer shows 1.3K miles, but the true mileage on the car is unknown.

Under the hood is an upgraded 289ci V8 that has been rebuilt and bored .040 over. It comes equipped with a variety of aftermarket parts, including:

-Scorpion Racing Products rockers

-Melling high-volume oil pump

-Melling lifters

-Crane camshaft

-Crane timing chain

-Magnaflux treatment

-Eagle connecting rods

-Sealed Power eutectic pistons

-Hastings plasma moly piston rings

-Dura-Bond Universal HP rod bearings

-ARP studs and bolts

-Edelbrock E-Force heads

-Edelbrock Performer RPM Air-Gap intake manifold

-Scott Drake engine mounts

-Scott Drake 6-quart oil pan

-Edelbrock AVS2 500-cfm carburetor

-Mishimoto oil cooler

-MSD ignition system

-American Autowire harness

-Powermaster high-torque starter

-Powermaster 150-amp alternator

-Aluminum 3-core radiator

The engine is connected to a top-loader 4-speed manual gearbox. On a dyno, the engine delivered 273 horsepower at 5,700 rpm and 280 lb-ft of torque at 3,700 rpm through an Eaton Detroit Locker with 3.40 gearing to the rear wheels. The second video below shows the car starting up and idling.

The underbody has been modified with a Global West front Monte Carlo bar, Global West rear subframe connectors, new rear axles, Timken seals and bearings, and Concours traction bars. The suspension features Moog ball joints and KYB shocks. The front brakes have been replaced with power front Wilwood discs. In addition, the engine has been connected to a new exhaust system.

A dyno printout and records for the work performed on the car will be included as part of the sale.
