OVERVIEW
This modified 1973 Ford Mustang Mach 1 is a rotisserie restoration that harnesses power from a Camaro-sourced supercharged 385ci Chevrolet LT4 small-block V8 backed by a Tremec T56 6-speed manual transmission. Retrofitted to incorporate engineering and suspension architecture from a fourth-generation Chevrolet Camaro, this customized Mach 1 is equipped with functioning anti-lock brakes, a set of 17-inch chrome wheels, and a two-tone interior with a center console and full gauges. Among other upgrades, the car has been outfitted with a Comp roller cam, AFR Eliminator heads, and a positraction rear end, while the exterior bears a “Mach Z” decal treatment, front and rear spoilers, and a Flowmaster exhaust system. Finished in Monte Carlo Yellow over a black vinyl interior, this first-generation Mustang is now offered with a restoration journal, service manuals, manuals with wiring diagrams specific to this build, engine tuning cables, an uninstalled spare powertrain control module with the current tune programmed on it as a backup, and a clear New York title in the seller’s name.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
This 1973 Mustang sports coupe was subjected to a rotisserie restoration in 2011 that included the replacement of the floors, rear quarters, and inner wheel wheels as well as other repairs. The reportedly rust-free exterior received fresh GM-sourced Monte Carlo Yellow paint along with a gloss black hood and painted and clearcoated stripes and "Mach Z" side decals. Features include a chin spoiler, color-keyed mirror caps, a rear spoiler, and chrome brightwork. The outlets for the custom 2.5-inch Flowmaster dual-exhaust setup exit beneath the rear bumper. The seller notes that there are stone chips from normal use behind each of the tires.
EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES
The chrome Chevrolet-sourced 17" x 9.5" front wheels are wrapped in 275/40 tires; the matching 17" x 11" rear wheels are surrounded by 315/35 tires.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
The 2+2 interior is fitted with black vinyl high-back bucket seats up front and dual fold-down sport seats in the rear, all of which are accented by yellow accent piping and embroidery. The surrounding all-black cockpit is furnished with a custom center console, carpeted floor mats, an aftermarket steering wheel, and a padded dash.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
Instrumentation was sourced from a Chevrolet Camaro donor car and consists of a 150-mph speedometer, 7K-rpm tachometer, and supplementary gauges for the voltage, oil pressure, fuel level, and coolant temperature, all of which are reported to operate as designed. In addition, aftermarket AEM gauges have been added to convey boost and air/fuel ratio information. The six-digit mechanical odometer reads 64K miles, although the true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The Camro-sourced supercharged 385ci LT4 V8 was engineered to fit this application through custom underbody mounting of the General Motors F-body K-member, which was bolted to the Mustang’s frame and can be removed from the bottom. The powerplant has been upgraded with performance equipment as noted in the bullet points below:
- Billet steel splayed main caps
- LT1 block
- ProCharger D-1SC supercharger
- AFR 195cc Eliminator heads
- SLP headers
- Shaft-mounted rockers
- Comp Cams hydraulic roller cam
- Scat 4340 crankshaft and H-beam rods
- JE Pistons reverse-dome blower pistons
- Canton Racing Products trap-door oil pan
- 65-lb fuel injectors
- Electric water pump
The engine was serviced within the last 500 miles and the ProCharger oil was changed as well. The gearbox's synchros and shift forks have been upgraded. Power is fed to the rear wheels via a Tremec T56 6-speed manual transmission with a SPEC stage 3.5 hydraulic clutch and a 0.50:1-ratio sixth gear, a rear end narrowed by 2.5 inches, and an Auburn differential with Positraction and 3.42 gearing. The seller notes that the engine, transmission, and front suspension can be dropped out from the bottom of the car or removed from the top. In addition, they report there is no windshield washer fluid pump.
UNDERCARRIAGE
The front end uses the suspension architecture from a fourth-generation Chevrolet Camaro Z28; the rear end uses a leaf-spring setup with custom floaters and a torque arm from a Camaro of the same era. An upgraded 1.25-inch anti-roll bar and urethane bushings were installed. Additional equipment includes Moser axles and Koni Classic adjustable shock absorbers. The steering is a rack-and-pinion setup. Stopping power comes from retrofitted and functional four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes. Additional photos showing the underside are available in the carousel.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
The sale includes a restoration journal with documentation of the build, service manuals, manuals with wiring diagrams specific to this build, engine tuning cables, and an uninstalled spare powertrain control module programmed with a backup copy of the current tune.
Final count down! I am sure going to miss her, but whomever wins will get a hell of a car. I would like to thank everyone who has taken an interest in this build. Good luck bidders!
@Gnx1234 – I’d would of left the badging as mach1 that way it can still Pay tribute to both the mustang and Camaros LT1.:hopefully it’s not painted on.,, I’d also install a set of aftermarket vintage 17 inch mustang wheels.. This is like someone took all the 3rd gen Camaros aftermarket wish parts and their dream car dropped them in a blender and out came the perfect car… What’s the rear whp ? Guessing 650whp ? ...
I will try to answer your questions to the best of my ability; First to address the A/C, I cannot say for certain that it leaks or doesn't. I usually ride with the windows down and the one time I used the air it was exceptionally warm outside to the point where my 2022 truck had trouble keeping the cabin cool. It has never been of great importance to me personally so I haven't really spent a lot of time with it on. As to your most recent; I believe the car is somewhere around 672hp at the wheels. And as far as the badges, they were already on the car when I got her. But its unique though!

If it needs a recharge then it’s got a leak somewhere, contrary to popular belief they never need to be recharged if working properly, what I don’t get is why not spend 100 bucks then a get the ac working correctly before selling it then ? Unless it’s the evaporator leaking which may require removing the dash ? Do you know what’s leaking ?

Yes, while it does not blow ice cold it does function well. It could probably use a recharge.
