Vehicle Story

This 1960 Jaguar Mark IX has been with the seller for 12 years and has reportedly received $50,000 in engine, suspension, and running gear updates. It is equipped with a "Blue Head" 3.8-liter dual-overhead-cam inline-6 engine with a 9:1 compression ratio and a Detroit Gear DG250 automatic transmission. Features include power steering, a limited-slip rear differential with a 3.56:1 gear ratio, a manual sunroof, power-assisted disc brakes at all four corners, and dual fuel tanks. This two-tone medium blue and silver Jaguar with a red leather interior is available now and comes with receipts, original sales brochures, and a clear New Hampshire title in the seller’s name.

The exterior was refinished in medium blue with silver side inserts under previous ownership. Features include chrome bumpers, driving lights, dual headlights, a chrome grille, chrome mirror caps, a manual sunroof, dual taillights, and chrome trunk trim with an integrated reverse light. The seller notes there is some rust in the dog legs ahead of the rear wheels, on the front edge of the fender skirts (spats), and on a lower front corner of the right front door. They add that their efforts were focused on making this car a “dependable highway cruiser,” not a “show car.” They refer to the vehicle as a “20-footer" with paintwork that could use a refresh.

A set of body-color steel wheels with chrome center caps is wrapped in wide-whitewall radial tires from Diamond Back. The seller states that the tires are 10 years old and may need replacement.

The front and rear bench seats are upholstered in red leather. The use of Bench Seats for both the front and the rear means that 6 passengers can travel in relative comfort. The seller states that the leather on the driver’s seat is good, but the springs and padding need to be redone. In addition, the driver-side rear armrest needs to be recovered. Interior features include red carpeting, woodgrain accents, rear seat trays, refurbished front and rear clocks, a fully functional body wiring harness, a manual sunroof, power-assisted brakes, power steering, and an AM radio.

A 120-mph speedometer, a 6K-rpm tachometer with an integrated clock, and gauges for the fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and amps are mounted in the wood dashboard ahead of the driver. The odometer reads 60,413 miles but the true mileage on this vehicle is unknown. The tachometer and speedometer have been reconditioned by Nisonger Instruments.

Power is provided by a "Blue Head" 3.8-liter dual-overhead-cam inline-6 engine with a 9:1 compression ratio and backed by a Detroit Gear DG250 automatic transmission. Underhood features include rebuilt power steering, a sleeved power brake master cylinder, a re-cored radiator, a rebuilt water pump, and an electric fan. The cap, rotor, wire set, and valve spring guide retainers have been replaced and the carburetors have been rebuilt. Additionally, the distributor has been rebuilt by Rob Medynski at British Vacuum Unit and the exhaust manifolds have been re-coated.

This Jaguar is factory-equipped with a torsion-bar front suspension and a solid rear drive axle. Braking is provided by 4-wheel power-assisted disc brakes. According to the seller, the brake master cylinder and all the brake calipers have been sleeved. In addition, the brake pads, steel and rubber brake lines, suspension bushings, ball joints, tie rod ends, and the gear-reduction starter has been replaced. The emergency brake mechanism, automatic transmission, and torque converter have been rebuilt. The rear-end gearing has been changed from an original 4.10:1 to a 3.54:1 ratio, which enables highway cruising at 70 mph and an engine speed that doesn't exceed 3,000 rpm. A limited-slip rear differential has been added to prevent the car from getting stuck in the wet grass on a car show field after a rainstorm. The front suspension has been completely dissembled and powder-coated black. Both gas tanks have been removed, repaired, cleaned, and equipped with a working fuel gauge and fuel pumps.

The seller will include $50,000 in receipts and original sales brochures with the sale.
