Vehicle Story

OVERVIEW

This 1958 MG MGA was cosmetically restored in 2006 under previous ownership. It has been with the seller for four years and reportedly underwent $10,000 in mechanical updates in 2019. Power is supplied by a rebuilt 1.5-liter inline-four engine and backed by a four-speed manual transmission. Features include Lucas driving lights, a luggage rack, a cloth convertible top, manual brakes, and manual steering. Finished in Orient Red with a tan top over a tan leather interior, this MG is available now and comes with a full car cover, tan tonneau cover and boot, a British Motor Heritage Certificate, receipts, restoration photos, and a clear Arizona title in the seller's name.

EXTERIOR – FEATURES

The exterior was refinished in red during the cosmetic restoration in 2006. Features include chrome bumpers with over-riders, Lucas driving lights, dual headlamps, dual fender-mounted mirrors, and a chrome windshield frame with glass wind wings. Additional features include a Haartz cloth convertible top with a plastic rear window, side curtains and bag, wind wings, a luggage rack, and dual taillamps.

EXTERIOR - WHEELS AND TIRES

A set of 15-inch silver steel wheels with chrome trim rings wrapped in new tires.

INTERIOR – FEATURES

The bucket seats, trim, and door panels are upholstered in tan leather. Features include tan carpeting with matching Coco mats, manual steering and brakes, a red body-color steel dashboard, and a four-spoke aluminum steering wheel with a wood rim. Aluminum cockpit trim plates will be included.

INTERIOR – GAUGES

A 120-mph speedometer, 7K-rpm tachometer, and gauges for the fuel level, coolant temperature, and oil pressure are located ahead of the driver. The seller notes that all gauges are working. With 1,000 miles added during current ownership, the odometer reads 71,564 miles but the true mileage on this vehicle is unknown.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

Power is provided by a rebuilt 1.5-liter inline-four engine backed by a four-speed manual transmission. Underhood features include rebuilt SU carburetors with chrome caps, a factory window washer, and a maroon engine block and valve cover. Newer parts include the clutch and flywheel, aluminum radiator, master cylinder, engine mounts, water pump, transmission gaskets and seals, upgraded four-inch fan, heater valve, and battery. A hand crank will go with the vehicle. A video of the engine running and a driving video can be seen below.

UNDERCARRIAGE

This MG was factory-equipped with an independent front suspension and a solid rear drive axle. Braking is provided by manual drum brakes. Newer parts include the rear lever shocks, brakes, wheel cylinders, rear differential seal, rear axle seals, and shock links.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

The seller will include a tan tonneau cover and boot, a British Motor Heritage Certificate, receipts, and restoration photos, with the sale.

@Scout60 – As a1958 it would have come from the factory with a 1500 engine. Not a 1600 (1.6 ltr) as listed. So either it’s a replacement engine or it has a 1500. Could you please confirm engine size. It would be stamped on the rear top of the block right below the valve cover I believe. ...

You are correct, the vehicle is equipped with a 1.5L engine and the listing has been amended to reflect that fact. The 1.6L was fitted on Twim-Cam models of the same year.

@RichG – It is a 1500. ...

I won't have time to check the stamp on the block but I never posted it as a 1.6. I believe it to be a 1500

Very nice example. What condition is the electrical? Battery? Is it a 12 volt system?
