OVERVIEW
This 1991 Toyota Celica GT convertible has been garage-kept in Texas long-term and is powered by a twin-cam 2.2-liter inline-4 paired with a 4-speed automatic transaxle. Earlier this year, it received a mechanical service that entailed the replacement of the fluids, spark plugs, and distributor. Finished in red with a black retractable top over a gray patterned cloth interior, this fifth-generation Celica is now offered with a clean CARFAX report and clear Maryland title in the seller’s name.
EXTERIOR - FEATURES
The Celica sports car was produced for seven generations beginning in 1971. The fifth-generation model came to market in 1990 with more rounded design elements than prior iterations. A convertible variant was built by American Sunroof Corporation (ASC) in California; this garage-kept Celica convertible from 1991 is one of those units. It spent most of its life in southern Texas and comes finished in red with a power-retractable black cloth top. Equipment includes retractable halogen headlamps, color-keyed mirror caps, a rear spoiler, and a trailer hitch.
EXTERIOR - WHEELS AND TIRES
The aftermarket aluminum multi-spoke wheels are set inside of tires with black sidewall lettering.
INTERIOR - FEATURES
The cabin is outfitted with gray patterned cloth bucket seats up front and a bench in the rear, offset by darker materials for the dash, door panels, center console, and steering wheel. Amenities include cruise control, an aftermarket CD/stereo, power windows, intermittent windshield wipers, and air conditioning. Per the seller, the passenger-side rear window does not go down and the radio is operated via an under-dash toggle switch added to remedy an electrical short caused by water ingress.
INTERIOR - GAUGES
Vehicle information is conveyed through a 120-mph speedometer, an 8K-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for the coolant temperature and fuel level. The six-digit mechanical odometer shows 188K miles, which is supported by the CARFAX report.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The fuel-injected twin-cam 2.2-liter 5S-FE inline-4 reportedly runs like new and was rated at 130 horsepower and 140 lb-ft of torque when new. The motor underwent servicing in January of 2022 that encompassed an oil change, a tire rotation, checks of various vehicle systems, and the replacement of the spark plugs and distributor. Power is fed to the front wheels via a console-shifted 4-speed automatic transaxle.
UNDERCARRIAGE
Steering and braking are power-assisted. The suspension is a four-wheel independent setup.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
The CARFAX report shows a vehicle history that is free of accidents and damage. There is a Manufacturer Service Campaign for the A/C expansion valve dated 1993 with a remedy available. The vehicle passed a Texas safety inspection in April of 2022.
