Vehicle Story

OVERVIEW

This 1948 Buick Roadmaster restomod combines modern conveniences, vintage looks, and an upgraded big-block powertrain. It has been restored and comes equipped with a performance-built 502ci Ram Jet V8 crate engine backed by a 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes custom Intro wheels, a four-wheel independent Kugel Komponents suspension, disc brakes, dual exhaust, and interior amenities such as late-model bucket seats, Vintage Air A/C, and a Kenwood CD stereo. Finished in two-tone Light Green Pearl and Black Sapphire over a charcoal leather interior, this custom-built Roadmaster is now offered by the selling dealer with a front-end mask, car cover, and clear title.

EXTERIOR – FEATURES

This Roadmaster two-door was restored from the ground up under prior ownership, receiving a two-tone paint motif of Light Green Pearl and Black Sapphire. It has been featured as a cover car in literature for the Buick Street Rod Association and comes equipped with dual mirrors, quad VentiPorts, and modifications such as a conventional hood hinge setup, reconfigured wheel well openings, shaved door handles, a swing-open fuel cap, an inverted front bumper, and a dual-exhaust setup. The seller has provided a series of photographs in the carousel to the right chronicling the restoration process.

EXTERIOR – TIRES AND WHEELS

Custom-made Intro wheels are wrapped in Firestone tires with black sidewall lettering.

INTERIOR – FEATURES

The cabin was custom-fitted with reupholstered charcoal leather power bucket seats, joined by a center console and matched to a double-stitched leather dashboard. Amenities include Vintage Air A/C and heat, cruise control, power vent and side windows, tinted glass, a tilt steering column with a custom steering wheel, remote entry, and a remote-controlled Kenwood KDC-MP438U head unit with USB/MP3/CD connectivity.

INTERIOR – GAUGES

Instrumentation from Classic Instruments includes a 140-mph speedometer, an 8K-rpm tachometer, and surrounding gauges for the fuel level, voltage, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The six-digit mechanical odometer reads 18K miles, which reflects the mileage accrued since the completion of the restoration. The true mileage on the chassis is unknown.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

The firewall was shifted six inches at the time of restoration and sits behind the fuel-injected 502ci Ram Jet big-block V8 crate engine. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a console-shifted 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission.

UNDERCARRIAGE

The car sits atop an Art Morrison chassis and uses Kugel Komponents independent suspension hardware at the front and rear. The architecture includes tubular control arms and adjustable coilover shocks up front and dual coilover shocks in the rear. Steering is power-assisted. Stopping power comes from power-assisted disc brakes. Additional photos showing the underside are available in the gallery.
