OVERVIEW
This award-winning 1965 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu SS convertible reportedly received more than $40,000 in restoration work and has been featured in a Chevelle magazine and a calendar. It is powered by an upgraded ZZ4 350ci V8 crate engine backed by a 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission. Features include power steering and brakes, a power convertible top, and Vintage Air climate control. Refinished in black with a black replacement top over a white vinyl interior, this Malibu SS is available now and comes with the magazine and calendar it was featured in; the original body service manual, owner's guide, convertible top guide, and gauge installation information; the Vintage Air manual; a build sheet; a car show award; and current Georgia registration in the seller's name.
EXTERIOR - FEATURES
The body was stripped and refinished in PPG black under prior ownership and features chrome bumpers with chrome bumper guards, a black and chrome grille, a fender-mounted antenna, and driver- and passenger-side mirrors. Additional features include wheel well and rocker trim, SS emblems, a black convertible top with a plastic rear window, and rear trim with a Malibu SS emblem.
EXTERIOR - WHEELS AND TIRES
A set of 15-inch polished aluminum Boyd Coddington Smoothies is wrapped in P205/65 Michelin HydroEdge radial tires.
INTERIOR - FEATURES
The front bucket seats, rear seat, rear trim, and door panels are upholstered in white vinyl. Features include black carpeting, black carpeted floor mats, a white center console with a manual transmission shifter, manual windows, and power steering and brakes. Additional features include a black dashboard with a black top pad, and a late-model Chevrolet three-spoke steering wheel with a leather grip. A Vintage Air system was added during the restoration process and reportedly blows ice-cold air.
INTERIOR - GAUGES
A set of AutoMeter analog gauges with carbon fiber dials that includes a 160-mph speedometer, a 10K-rpm tachometer, and gauges for the fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and voltage is located in a Covan’s Classic panel located ahead of the driver. The odometer reads 6,300 miles, which reflects the mileage accrued since the restoration was completed, but the true mileage on this vehicle is unknown.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
Power is provided by a ZZ4 350ci V8 crate engine backed by a 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission. Underhood features include aluminum valve covers with Chevrolet logos, an aluminum intake, an Edelbrock 600-cfm four-barrel carburetor with an electric choke, an air cleaner housing with American flag and bald eagle artwork, a polished air conditioning compressor, a chrome alternator, ceramic-coated 2.5-inch headers, and an HEI ignition. The seller notes that an oil change was completed in September of 2022.
UNDERCARRIAGE
This Chevelle was factory-equipped with an independent front suspension and a solid rear drive axle. The chassis components were rebuilt with Energy Suspension polyurethane bushings. Braking is provided by Master Power Brakes power front discs and rear drums. The full-length exhaust system is equipped with two-chamber Flowmaster mufflers. Additional undercarriage photos can be seen in the carousel to the right.
