Vehicle Story

OVERVIEW

This 1948 Ford F-1 pickup is an older restoration that has been with the seller for six years and is powered by an 8BA 261ci flathead V8 backed by a Ford C4 three-speed automatic transmission. Features include an updated 12-volt wiring system, an oak bed floor, a Lokar automatic shifter, manual steering and brakes, and Vision wheels with Hankook tires. Refinished in Rangoon Red over a black vinyl interior, this Ford F-1 is available now and comes with current ownership service invoices; uninstalled step plates, wheels, and tires; and a clear Illinois title in the seller’s name.

EXTERIOR - FEATURES

During the restoration performed under prior ownership, the all-steel body and fenders were finished in Rangoon Red. Features include silver bumpers, a body-color grille with chrome accents, a power antenna, driver- and passenger-side mirrors, a cab-mounted fuel tank, a step-side bed with an oak wood floor, and a silver Ford tailgate logo. The seller notes that the passenger-side vent window has a crack in it, the driver-side window is chipped where the door meets the frame, and the windshield wiper arm is loose and may need to be replaced.

EXTERIOR - WHEELS AND TIRES

A set of gray 15-inch Vision Wheel Shift aluminum wheels is wrapped in Hankook Kinergy PT radial tires. According to the seller, the wheels and tires were purchased in 2020.

INTERIOR - FEATURES

The bench seat is upholstered in black vinyl. Features include a black vinyl floor covering, a floor-mounted Lokar automatic transmission shifter, a black headliner, gloss red interior sheet metal and dashboard, a JVC digital AM/FM/CD stereo with Bluetooth and a removable faceplate, and an aftermarket turn signal assembly.

INTERIOR - GAUGES

The set of analog iEquus gauges includes a 120-mph speedometer and readouts for the fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and battery voltage. With fewer than 600 miles added during current ownership, the odometer reads 973 miles but the true mileage on this vehicle is unknown. The seller had the speedometer lubricated, but it requires a tap on the gauge cover to keep it from sticking.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

Power is provided by an 8BA 261ci Ford flathead V8 and backed by a Ford C4 three-speed automatic transmission. Underhood features include an upgraded 12-volt electrical system, a 12-volt alternator, an oil-bath air cleaner, a remote oil filter canister, a single Holley 94 carburetor, and a billet aluminum transmission dipstick. An oil and filter change was completed in 2021.

UNDERCARRIAGE

This Ford pickup was factory-equipped with a solid I-beam front axle and a solid rear drive axle. Braking is provided by hydraulic manual drum brakes. Dual exhaust outlets exit at the rear. A new solenoid and fuel pump have been installed. The seller states that recent service includes repairs to the emergency brake, the installation of new hydraulic brake lines, adjustments to the steering components, and chassis lubrication. In addition, they note the float knocks against the wall of the fuel tank. Additional photos of the undercarriage can be seen in the carousel to the right.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

Service invoices from current ownership, uninstalled step plates, and uninstalled Keystone wheels with Hankook whitewall tires will be included with the sale of the vehicle.

@Papa123 – You answered one question on maintenance about several items or issues you had taken care of or had done to your F-1. One in particular was the installation of a fuel pump in March of 2020. I also took note of the float against that the fuel tank tank. I’ve had issues like that on older vehicles before as well as newer ones with electric gauges. I mention this because I would want to fix this issue asap if my bid were to win that is if I bid. I’m assuming that it would not be to difficult to obtain a new float and after draining all the fuel from the tank and air it out really good it would be easily replaced? In your opinion would you say so? Last question , why are you selling this truck? ...

I have no idea if the float could be replaced easily or not. However, it seems reasonable that it would be a process like you described. My mechanic adjusted the float to improve its accuracy but it is not perfect. I am content with adding fuel when I hear the float knocking (about 1/8 full). I only use the truck for pleasure and the fuel gage works well enough for me as is. I am selling the truck because I think its time to pass it on to someone that will enjoy it as much as I have.
