OVERVIEW
This 1966 Chevrolet Corvair Monza coupe received a cosmetic refresh in 2010 and updates to the brakes, fuel system, and suspension in recent months. It draws power from a rebuilt twin-carburetor 2.7-liter flat-six paired with a rebuilt Powerglide two-speed automatic transaxle. Features include 15-inch Torq Thrust wheels, a new windshield, and a Delco AM radio. Finished in Dark Blue Metallic over the original black vinyl interior, this second-generation Corvair is now offered with an owner’s manual, a car cover, a shop manual, service records, the original uninstalled 13-inch wheels and wheel covers, and a clear Virginia title in the seller’s name.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
This Corvair was treated to a light restoration and rust repair in 2010 and repainted in its current coat of Dark Blue Metallic. Exterior features include chrome brightwork, quad headlights, a chin spoiler, and a new windshield. The seller notes that there is a small rust spot at the edge of the front passenger-side fender.
EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES
Aluminum five-spoke 15-inch Torq Thrust wheels are wrapped in 195/55 General AltiMAX tires.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
According to the seller, the interior is original. It consists of black vinyl bucket seats up front and a bench in the rear, matched to the door panels, dash, and carpeting. Amenities include a Delco AM radio, a clock, lap belts, floor mats, and a heater. An air conditioning system is installed but reportedly needs recharging. The carpeting shows some light fading.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
Instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer, a fuel gauge, and warning lights for various systems. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 73K miles, which the seller states is accurate.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The rear-mounted “Turbo-Air” 2.7-liter air-cooled flat-six has rebuilt twin carburetors and is said to run well. It was rated at 110 horsepower when new. Recent work includes the replacement of the fuel gauge sending unit and a reseal of the fuel tank. Power is fed to the rear wheels via a Powerglide two-speed automatic transaxle that was rebuilt along with the engine in 2010.
UNDERCARRIAGE
The front and rear wheel cylinders and hubs have been rebuilt or replaced within the last three months. New tapered roller bearings have been installed in the same timeframe. Stopping power comes from new drums with new shoes and fresh brake fluid at all four corners. The seller notes that some rear bushings need replacing. Additional photos showing the underside are available in the carousel to the right.
