1948 Chevrolet Suburban

OVERVIEW

This 1948 Chevrolet Suburban restomod is a custom build that blends unique exterior bodywork, a modernized interior, and a Cadillac 500ci V8 paired with a Turbo 400 three-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes shaved door handles, wide whitewall tires, a Bluetooth audio system, and Vintage Air climate control. Finished in Root Beer Brown over a two-tone ivory and brown vinyl interior, this Suburban is now offered with a clear Pennsylvania title in the seller’s name.

EXTERIOR – FEATURES

This modified Suburban rides on a Chevrolet S-10 frame and is finished in Root Beer Brown with orange pinstriping. The body was stripped to bare metal before it received modifications which include a three-inch chopped roofline, added bodyside coves, a reworked hood line, stacked and canted headlamps, a custom grille, shaved door handles, an antenna, a dual exhaust system, and a single rear door flanked by frenched Cadillac taillights. The window surrounds are finished in black and the running boards have been smoothed out.

EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES

Chrome wheels are wrapped in whitewall tires.

INTERIOR – FEATURES

The passenger compartment is fitted with dual ivory vinyl bucket seats with brown piping, split by a custom center console and complemented by brown carpeting. The rear compartment is set up for cargo hauling and lined with vinyl panels in the same color scheme. The dash features updated gauges and a Kenwood AM/FM/CD audio system with Bluetooth connectivity. Additional cabin amenities include Vintage Air HVAC, floor mats, power windows, a rally steering wheel, and a storage trunk behind the passenger seat that houses a subwoofer.

INTERIOR – GAUGES

Aftermarket instrumentation includes a 140-mph speedometer accompanied by a combination gauge showing the fuel level, voltage, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The digital odometer reads about 5K miles, although the true mileage on the chassis is unknown.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

The Cadillac-sourced 500ci V8 sits in an engine bay dressed in chrome accents and has been upgraded with an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, a new radiator, and an electric fan. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a column-shifted Turbo 400 three-speed automatic transmission and a 10-bolt rear end.

UNDERCARRIAGE

Undercoating has been applied. The suspension uses air shocks at the rear. Stopping power comes from disc brakes up front and drums in the rear. Additional photos showing the underside are available in the carousel to the right.
