OVERVIEW
This 1978 Volkswagen Type 2 Westfalia camper comes from a two-year Champagne Edition model span and received a replacement pop-up canvas top, newer upholstery, and additional inside-and-out updates over the past 15 years of current ownership. It is powered by a rebuilt 2.0-liter flat-four that has accrued fewer than 5K miles since installation and directs power rearward through a four-speed manual transaxle. Refinished in two-tone Agate Brown and Pastel White over a brown vinyl and multicolor plaid cloth interior with wood cabinetry, convertible sleeping arrangements, a stove, and other amenities, this Westfalia is now offered with service records back to 1992, an E-Z UP awning, a car cover, spare window gaskets, service manuals, and a clear Michigan title in the seller’s name.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
This Westfalia bus was manufactured as part of a two-year Champagne Edition run with a unique two-tone color scheme and equipment. Its Agate Brown and Pastel White finishes were reapplied during a refurbishment process carried out in 2007 and the vehicle has reportedly been garage-kept during winters since that time. In addition to the paintwork, exterior restoration includes the replacement of the window seals, chrome headlight rings, front turn signals, taillights, antenna, mirrors, side mirrors, wiper arms, and pop-up canvas top. The chrome bumpers were replaced in 2012.
EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES
White steel wheels with polished hubcaps are wrapped in tires with black sidewall lettering.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
The interior features reupholstered vinyl and plaid front bucket seats, a rear bench, and a rear sleeping area with an additional upper bed. The cabin is outfitted in brown trim for the dash, steering column, steering wheel, and kick panels. Amenities include three-point seat belts up front, lap belts for the rear bench, a clock, a convertible rear seat with sleeping quarters, a swiveling pedestal table, wooden cabinetry, snap-in curtains, a sink with a pump, a propane stove, a propane/electric refrigerator, a storage platform that installs over the front seats, mosquito nets, and laminate surfaces. The seller notes that the sink tank has a pinhole leak and has not been used in several years, a propane heater is installed but has also not been used in recent years, and the driver-side crank-out window has replacement rubber gaskets. Additionally, the fan motor was removed under prior ownership so only fresh air and engine heat come through the dash vents. An uninstalled gasket kit for the passenger-side crank-out window will be included with the sale of the vehicle.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
Vehicle information is presented through a 90-mph speedometer along with a fuel gauge and warning lamps for other vehicle systems. The five-digit mechanical odometer currently reads 72K miles, which indicates 172K actual miles accrued, according to the seller.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The rebuilt, air-cooled 2.0-liter flat-four was installed in 2017 and has accrued fewer than 5,000 miles since then. Service performed within the last 12 years includes the replacement of the muffler, work on the fuel system and vacuum pump, and the installation of hoses, belts, and seals as needed. Power is fed to the rear wheels via a floor-shifted four-speed manual transaxle that recently received clutch housing repairs.
UNDERCARRIAGE
New brakes were installed in 2010.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
The sale includes maintenance records covering the past 30 years of ownership, an uninstalled crank-out window gasket kit, service manuals, a car cover, and an 8' X 10' E-Z Up awning that clamps to the rain gutter on the passenger side.

@jhelfert – Do the stove and frig work? Do you know the horsepower rating on the motor? How is the power for highway cruising and going up hills? Thank you ...
Hi, the stove and fridge both work. It’s a 2-liter engine; don’t know horse power; top highway speeds of 65-70, depending on wind conditions. Slower going up hills. Driving strategically (speeding up on approach helps) but it will slow down on long uphill sections. But the smiles, waves and thumbs-ups make it worth it.
