This 1957 Chevrolet Nomad is finished in Viper Red over a black leather interior. Powered by a 1970 350ci V8 backed by a 3-speed automatic transmission, the car previously received a frame-off restoration with custom upgrades finished in 1997. Features include air ride suspension, dual exhaust, power disc brakes, a custom grille, shaved door handles, and Torque Thrust wheels. Located in Galway, New York, this Nomad is now offered for sale on a clean New York registration in the seller's name.
Finished in Viper Red, the retains most of its original sheet metal with only the floors and firewall replaced in the restoration. Several custom modifications were made, including a horizontal slotted grill, custom fin inserts, blue dot taillight lenses, shaved power handles, and a frenched power antenna. The headlights have been upgraded with Headwinds Tri-bar halogen lights, and all bolts, screws, grommets, and weather stripping are new.
15” Torq Thrust D wheels are finished in gray with a machined lip and spinner center caps. Goodyear Eagle GT II radial tires are equipped, measuring 225/70 on the front and 255/60 on the rear. Braking is handled by power disc brakes on the front with a proportioning valve and rear drum brakes. The suspension features an adjustable air ride setup on all four corners with new leaf springs in the rear.
The interior features aftermarket bucket seats with raised bolsters and upholstered in black leather. A center console was custom made and houses the B&M Mega Shifter for the automatic transmission and cup holders. A JVC AM/FM cassette classic car stereo with 80W kick panel speakers in the front and Polk speakers in the back make up the sound system. All interior surfaces were lined with sound dampening material to reduce rattle and road noise. Additional features include a billet aluminum steering column with tilt capability and power windows.
Behind the aftermarket steering wheel sits a 120-mph speedometer, along with ancillary gauges for engine temperature and fuel level. Additional gauges are located in the center console, and an air pressure gauge and switches for the air ride suspension are mounted underneath the left side of the dash. An AutoMeter tachometer was also installed on the steering column with readings up to 8K -rpm. 17K miles are displayed on the 5-digit analog odometer, though true mileage is unknown.
Under the hood sits the 1970 Chevrolet 350ci V8, with a 4-bolt main and has been rebored and honed .030. An Edlebrock Performer cam, intake and 750 cfm carbeurotr are also equipped, along with 76cc polished heads with a 2” intake and 1.94” exhaust. The ignition system has been upgraded with a Summit electronic ignition with a magnetic pickup small-cap distributor. The cooling system features a 4-core radiator with a 16-inch electric fan and coolers for engine oil and the transmission. Power is sent to the original 3:70:1 rear end via a rebuilt GM turbo 400 hydromatic transmission with a B&M pro super shift kit and Tork Master 2000 torque converter.
Additional underside photos are available in the gallery.
Included in the sale are all records and receipts from the restoration and upgrades, as well as photo documentation.
