Vehicle Story

This 1965 Ford Mustang GT fastback is finished in burgundy with white stripes over a black vinyl interior and is powered by a 289ci V8 paired with a C4 automatic transmission.  The car has been owned by its current owner for 30 years and was the recipient of a three-year, comprehensive restoration effort that concluded in 2017.  Equipment includes GT fog lamps, Edelbrock carburetor, stainless steel braking equipment, dual exhaust with trumpet tips, and upgraded Shelby sway bar.  Located in Sanford, Florida, this Mustang is now offered on a clean Florida title in the seller’s name.

The car is finished in Burgundy poly with White stripes running across the roof, hood, and trunk, and GT stripes along with the lower rockers.  It was the recipient of a three year, bare-metal rotisserie restoration, and that was completed in April 2017.  A fiberglass hood with Shelby style hood scoop was added, and lightweight hood hinges were installed.  The rear quarter windows feature factory vents, and a Shelby filler cap was added on the tail panel. Additional equipment includes dual fog lamps mounted within the grille, trumpet exhaust, and GT badging on the fenders.

The car rides on Magnum 500 wheels measuring 14x6 in the front and 14x7 in the rear. The tires are BF Goodrich Radial T/A raised-white-letter tires on all four corners, with 205/70 upfront and 245/60 in the rear.  The braking system features factory front discs with new stainless steel lines throughout; additionally, lines for the transmission and fuel system were replaced with stainless steel pieces.  A Shebly sway bar with urethane bushings has been added to the front for improved handling.

The interior is fitted with black vinyl bucket seats separated by a console in the center and matching carpeting and door panels.  The console houses the shifter for the automatic transmission and features silver trim throughout.  The factory radio has been upgraded with a vintage-look head unit from USA-1 with modern smartphone connectivity and AM/FM/cassette source options.

A three-spoke chrome steering wheel with Mustang center horn insignia frames the instrumentation, which includes a 120-mph speedometer as well as a column-mounted 8k-rpm tachometer.  Accompanying gauges display fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and voltage.  A clock is also present but is currently inoperable.  The five-digit odometer reads 84k miles, 2k of which have been added by the seller since completion of the restoration in 2017.

The 289ci V8 is original to the car and has been rebuilt with performance upgrades, including a performance camshaft,  Edelbrock Performer 600CFM Carburetor, and a Weiand Stealth high-rise intake manifold.  The ignition coil is from Mallory High Performance, and there are ceramic Tri-Y headers installed from Scott Drake.  Other equipment includes FlowKooler high-flow water pump, Champion aluminum four-core radiator with 2x13 overflow tank, and fiberglass fan shroud.  The car has a Power Master 100-amp one-wire chrome alternator, chrome valve covers, and a Scott Drake chrome-finished air cleaner.  Power is sent to the rear wheels through a console-shifted automatic C4 transmission with a shift kit.

The underside has been fully restored, with all components repainted or replated. Additional photos showing the underside are available in the gallery.

The rear quarter windows style vents are original equipment. AutoHunter put that in.

Just curious, what is meant by "rear quarter windows have been filled with Shelby style vents".? I'm not a Mustang expert but they look 'stock' to me.
