This 1970 Mercury Cougar XR7 convertible is finished in red with a white convertible top over a black vinyl interior and powered by a 351ci V8 paired with a 3-speed manual transmission. Sold new in Illinois, the car was acquired by the seller in 1974 and relocated to Colorado, where it has been garage kept the entire time. The manual transmission was installed by the original owner, features include power steering & brakes, a wood rim steering wheel, and an AM/FM radio. Located in Littleton, Colorado, this Cougar XR7 is now offered for sale on a clean Colorado title in the seller's name.
The vehicle is finished in red and has a white, power-operated convertible top. Signature Cougar hideaway headlamps are housed within the ribbed grille and the marker lights are located beneath the front bumper. In the rear, brake lighting is provided by a full-width panel. The chrome and other bright work show free of corrosion or pitting. The seller has included photos of the convertible top in both up and down configurations.
Factory 14” steel wheels with original hubcaps are mounted to whitewall tires with good tread.
The interior is fitted with new black carpeting and has black vinyl bucket seats up front, with a bench in the rear. The black dashboard is accented by faux woodgrain trim surrounding the gauge cluster as well as above the passenger side glove compartment. The trunk is lined with patterned vinyl and contains a cover for a spare tire, along with associated jack equipment.
Instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer, along with gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, and an analog clock. The five-digit odometer reads 19k miles, which are believed to be 119k according to the seller.
The 351ci Windsor V8 is original to the vehicle and is finished in blue with Mercury decals. The seller states that the battery is new. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a three-speed manual transmission with a floor-mounted shifter.
The sale includes a car cover.
