OVERVIEW
This 1963 Volkswagen Type 2 Transporter double-cab pickup was restored in 2008 and is powered by a 1,493cc flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle. It has reportedly been owned by the same family its entire life and features a newer radio, a 12-volt electrical system, an upgraded brake master cylinder, reupholstered seats, and a refurbished steering wheel. Refinished in white over a gray vinyl interior, this Transporter is now offered by the selling dealer with a clear California title.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
The body was resprayed in white during the restoration process completed in 2008. It features a double-cab configuration with a cargo bed out back; a rear door on the passenger side provides access to the second row of seating. Features include bright headlight bezels and badging, a split windshield, dual side mirrors, and a color-matched treatment for the bumpers and cargo area.
EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES
Color-matched 15-inch steel wheels with polished center caps are wrapped in blackwall tires.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
The cab is fitted with reupholstered dual gray vinyl seats up front, a bench in the rear, and white accent piping. Matching vinyl continues to the door panels, while the floor is lined with black rubber. Features include a refurbished steering wheel and an aftermarket radio with speakers under the rear seat.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
Instrumentation includes the reportedly original 80-mph speedometer and fuel gauge. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 65,981 miles but the true mileage on this vehicle is unknown.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The rear-mounted 1,493cc flat-four engine benefits from a 12-volt electrical system and electronic ignition. Torque is sent to the rear wheels via a floor-shifted four-speed manual transaxle.
UNDERCARRIAGE
Stopping power comes from four-wheel drum brakes controlled by an upgraded master cylinder. Additional photos showing the underside are available in the carousel to the right.
