Vehicle Story

This 1967 Oldsmobile 442 is finished in Spanish Red over a red vinyl interior and powered by its original 400 ci V8 engine, backed by a Turbo 400 3-speed automatic transmission. The seller acquired in 2011 and proceeded to rebuild both the engine and transmission before refinishing the body. Many new parts have been added, including a radiator, rear end, air conditioning, and a modern audio system. Additional equipment includes power disc brakes, power steering, exhaust headers, and Cragar Eliminator wheels. Located in Palmyra, Indiana, this 442 is now offered for sale on a clean Indiana title in the seller's name.

The car was refinished in its original hue of Spanish Red in May 2012; no panel replacement or rust repair on the body was needed. The car features a factory louvered hood, along with dual headlights in the front with turn signal indicators in between. 442 badges are found in the grille, decklid, and fenders. Polished trim runs along the lower half of the car and around the wheel wells, while additional brightwork consists of window trim, taillight bezels, door handles, and dual side mirrors.

15” Cragar Eliminator 500G series wheels are wrapped in BF Goodrich Radial TA tires on all four corners, while a non-matching spare is included in the trunk. The front brakes were upgraded to power-assisted discs while the rear retains the factory drums. The suspension has been serviced with new shocks all around and Air Lift 1000 air helper springs added to the rear.

The interior is equipped with factory bucket seats upholstered in red vinyl, and the matching door panels and carpets were replaced in 2011 by the seller. A center console is mounted between the front seats and houses a polished shifter for the automatic transmission with a wood shift knob. The upper and lower dash is finished in red and with the dash pad showing slight bubbling. A custom Auto Sound 630 series stereo is mounted in the factory radio location, next to controls for the aftermarket air conditioning system. The horn and rear window defroster are currently inoperable.

The factory gauge cluster was restored in 2011 by Ron Roth and consists of a 120mph speedometer, tachometer, and fuel gauge. The odometer currently reads just over 54k miles; true mileage is unknown.

Power is provided by the original 400 ci V8 engine, which was rebuilt in 2011 along with the original Quadrajet carburetor. A new radiator was installed in 2014, while the starter solenoid was moved to the fender wall. The entire electrical system was redone with American Auto Wiring products while a new distributor with electronic ignition was installed. The factory exhaust manifolds were cracked and replaced with aftermarket headers. The Turbo 400 automatic transmission was rebuilt simultaneously as the engine and transfers power to an Eaton 12-bolt rear end with a 3.08 positraction differential and 28 spline axles.

Included in the sale are all receipts and records since 2011 when the seller acquired the car

@a1rayman – What is the possibility of send or adding a video of the 442 cold starting and running? Does the A/C work? (Not a deal killer if not working.) Any rust or rust bubbling showing on the paint? Submitted by: Ray Moore ...

Ray, Let me see what I can work out on the video. Would "face time" of similat work for you as well? Yes, A/C works - it is OLD AIR products "Huuricane" model - blows through the factory vents. Slight rust beginning to show where rear window chrome trim meets rear deck. Jeff
