OVERVIEW
This 1969 Dodge Charger, aka "Scraptona," is a 2018 SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) show car constructed by TredWear and powered by a 740-horsepower R5-P7 358ci V8 built by Petty Enterprises. Features include a new Tremec TKX five-speed manual transmission, power steering, a Winters Performance Products quick-change rear end, Wilwood disc brakes, and a Rugged Radios Bluetooth headset. Finished in multicolor paint over a brown vinyl and exposed metal interior, this custom Charger is available now and comes from the selling dealer with a matching Hot Wheels car, a copy of the Car Craft magazine it was featured in, posters of the car, and a clear title.
EXTERIOR - FEATURES
According to the Car Craft article in which this car was featured, the 1969 Dodge Charger shell features Daytona and Superbird reproduction parts. The body panels, Janak Repros fiberglass nose, doors, and trunk are covered in a mix of factory-applied paint and tractor paint, which was distressed with steel wool and Scotch-Brite pads. The functional headlights are set in BMW buckets and shine through polycarbonate covers. The taillights and turn signals are also functional and along with the headlights enable the car to be driven on the road. The 1970 Coronet front fenders and the AMD (Auto Metal Direct) reproduction rear quarter panels add 2.5 inches of width to the car to accommodate the wheels and tires. The front windshield is made of solid polycarbonate; the Ferrari F40-inspired rear window and the quarter windows are made from vented polycarbonate. A pair of matte black mirror caps are mounted on the door panels. A full walk-around video can be seen below.
EXTERIOR - WHEELS AND TIRES
A set of custom-made 20" x 12" wheels is wrapped in 29 x 15.00R20 Mickey Thompson radial tires.
INTERIOR - FEATURES
The Kirkey Racing Fabrication Vintage Class aluminum bucket seats are fitted with brown vinyl lower pads. Interior features include Simpson restraints, a roll cage, a center console with a rust patina, lightening holes in the raised footwells, a Rugged Radios headset with a Bluetooth intercom, a Longacre Racing Products steering wheel connected to a quick-release hub, power steering, and manual brakes. The side windows have been eliminated.
INTERIOR - GAUGES
The RACEPAK IQ3S combination gauge mounted to the top of the dashboard includes a speedometer, an 8K-rpm tachometer, and readouts for the coolant temperature and voltage. According to the selling dealer, this car does not have a fuel tank sending unit.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The R5-P7 358ci V8 was built by Petty Enterprises in 2005 and comes equipped with a Jesel belt drive system, Jesel roller rocker arms, Jesel Keyway roller lifters, a Comp Cams solid-roller camshaft, and a dry-sump oiling system. The engine was rated at 740 horsepower and is backed by a new Tremec TKX five-speed manual transmission with a Tilton Engineering bell housing. Underhood features include an aluminum intake, black valve covers, a carbon fiber cowl-induction air cleaner, an MSD distributor, an MSD 6AL ignition box, a Holley XP750 carburetor, and an aluminum radiator with dual electric fans.
UNDERCARRIAGE
The chassis of this Charger was modified with 2" x 4" box tubing using Rocket Chassis dirt track chassis components. The independent front suspension consists of tubular upper and lower control arms with coil-over shocks; the rear end is a Winters Performance Products quick-change unit with 3.55:1 gears and coil-over shocks. Wilwood Forged Superlite 6R 13-inch front and 12-inch rear discs help bring this car to a stop. Flowing from tubular headers and wrapped in heat-resistant material, the dual exhaust system exits ahead of the rear wheels. Additional photos of the undercarriage can be seen in the carousel to the right.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
In addition to the 2018 SEMA show, this car was also displayed as part of the 2019 HOT ROD Power Tour, the 2022 Detroit Autorama, a 2022 Gridlife event, and the 2021 Hotwheels Legends Tour. The selling dealer will include a matching Hot Wheels car, a copy of the Car Craft magazine this build was featured in, and posters of the car to give away to fans of the Scraptona with the sale of the vehicle.
