OVERVIEW
This 1967 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS convertible underwent a restoration that focused on correct equipment, panel fit, paint finish, and hardware updates. Under the hood resides a 1971 396ci big-block V8 that is coupled with a Muncie four-speed manual transmission and a Positraction rear end. Equipment includes power-assisted front disc brakes, Rally wheels, a Sony stereo, and a Gardner dual exhaust system. Finished in Bolero Red with a black retractable top over a black and white vinyl interior, this first-year Camaro is now offered by the selling dealer with an owner’s manual, periodicals, repair books, license plates, a convertible boot, and a clear California title.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
This initial-year Camaro convertible came factory-equipped with both the RS and SS trim packages. Later in life, it was restored and repainted in its original color of Bolero Red with a white nose stripe and white side striping. The passenger compartment is covered by a manually retractable black cloth top. According to the selling dealer, the rust-free exterior has excellent paint and good panel fit. Features include a chin spoiler, retractable headlights, dual side mirrors, rocker moldings, chrome brightwork and bumper guards, a rear spoiler, and a Gardner dual exhaust system.
EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES
Steel 14-inch Rally wheels with polished trim rings are wrapped in BFGoodrich Silvertown Radial redline tires.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
The deluxe-trim cockpit is fitted with black vinyl low-back bucket seats with white accents up front, matched to the rear bench, door panels, center console, dash, and carpeting. Amenities include a Hurst shifter, lap belts, an SS-branded steering wheel, bowtie-branded floor mats, and a Delco push-button radio along with a concealed remote-controlled Sony AM/FM/CD head unit inside the glove compartment. The trunk was restored to include a mat, a spare tire jack, and factory decals.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
Instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer, a 7K-rpm tachometer, and a center console with a clock and fuel, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage gauges. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 870 miles, but the true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The big-block 396ci V8 dates to a 1971 build. The fuel tank, lines, filters, and gaskets were replaced at the time of restoration. Features include an open-element air cleaner, a color-keyed intake, a Quadrajet four-barrel carburetor, factory heads, an MSD ignition system, a new alternator, and correct GM-branded hoses and decals. Power is sent to the back wheels via a console-shifted Muncie M20 four-speed manual transmission and a 10-bolt Positraction rear end. Specific block casting, transmission, and rear-end identification data is available upon request.
UNDERCARRIAGE
Steering is power-assisted. Stopping comes via power-assisted disc brakes up front and drums in the rear, complete with a new master cylinder, shoes, wheel cylinders, and stainless steel lines. The suspension was overhauled at the time of restoration to include replacement shock absorbers, Viking coilovers, a new ball joint, a fresh alignment, Eaton Detroit Spring mono-leaf springs, and new shackles. Additional photos showing the underside are available in the carousel to the right.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
The sale includes receipts, an owner’s manual, repair books, periodicals, re-creation California license plates, and a black vinyl convertible boot. The car passed a recent California safety inspection.
