Vehicle Story

This 1970-1/2 Chevrolet Camaro SS is finished in Cortez Silver over a black interior and is powered by an L34 396ci V8 paired with a Muncie M20 4-speed manual transmission.  Built at the Norwood, Ohio plant, this 1970 Camaro is a factory SS and equipment includes a dual exhaust system, power brakes, power steering, and a 12-bolt rear end with positraction differential.  Located in Hallsville, Texas, this Camaro SS is now offered on a Texas title in the seller’s name.

The car is finished in Cortez Silver with dual black stripes on the hood and trunk lid and a black tail panel.  All body panels have recently been adjusted and aligned with uniform gaps while the hood hinges were replaced to ensure proper fitment as well.  A flush-mounted rear lip spoiler is mounted on the decklid, and the hood has a functional cowl intake. The rear bumper was replaced, and all other chrome is in good condition, including the front bumper, side mirror, and door handles.

Factory five-spoke 15” wheels are finished dark silver with new trim rings and center caps; all mounted to new raised-white-letter BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires.  The car has power steering and power-assisted front disc brakes.

The interior is fitted with black vinyl bucket seats and new black carpeting, while the headliner and gauge bezel are new as well.  A center console is mounted between the front seats, equipped with a new trim plate, and houses a Hurst shifter for the 4-speed transmission; the T-handle shift knob shown in the photos was recently replaced with a factory-style ball. A vintage look stereo was installed in the factory location but is not currently hooked to any speakers as the center dash one was previously removed. The seller did not want to cut into doors, kick panels, or the package tray to install new ones.

Instrumentation is framed by a new three-spoke steering wheel and includes a 150-mph speedometer along with a 7k-rpm tachometer.  Auxiliary gauges are mounted below the audio head unit with readouts for coolant temperature, voltage, and oil pressure.  The five-digit odometer reads 64k miles, of which about 300 have been added by the seller.  True mileage is unknown.

The big-block 396ci V8 is not original to the vehicle but is period-correct for what the car originally came with.  It received a top-end rebuild 3 months ago with only test miles since completion, and the bottom end was inspected and measured with a micrometer.  A new performance camshaft was installed at the same time as the rebuild and exhaust headers were added. The engine bay features a firewall finished to match the car's exterior while the inner fenders are finished in black, while the engine is equipped with chrome air cleaner and valve covers.  Power is sent to the rear wheels via a Muncie M20 4-speed manual transmission and a 12-bolt rear end with a 3.73 positraction differential.

The underside floorpan was finished in Chevrolet engine orange and the frame was refinished in black Additional photos showing the underside are available in the gallery.

The sale includes service records from work performed during the sellers ownership.
