OVERVIEW
This 1966 Volkswagen Type 2 21-window Sunroof Deluxe has been driven 26 miles since undergoing a complete rotisserie restoration and is powered by a rebuilt 1,600cc flat-four mated to a rebuilt four-speed manual transaxle. Equipment includes a sliding fabric sunroof, new whitewall tires, a refurbished suspension, and new brakes. Finished in two-tone turquoise and pearl white over a green and turquoise vinyl interior, this 21-window Bus is now offered by the selling dealer with a clear California title.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
According to the selling dealer, the restoration process incorporated restored, rebuilt, or OEM (original equipment manufacturer) replacement parts. The body was refinished in turquoise and pearl white. Features include a VW emblem on the nose, a replacement safari-style two-piece front window, new window rubber, white bumpers with overriders, a sliding fabric sunroof, and barn-style doors on the passenger side for entry into the rear of the cabin. The selling dealer reports 80 percent of the windows are new. They have provided photos of the body undergoing restoration in the gallery to the right.
EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES
Powder-coated 14-inch steel wheels with VW-branded chrome dog dish center caps are wrapped in new 195/75 Travelstar whitewall tires.
INTERIOR - FEATURES
The reportedly OEM-spec interior features three rows of green and turquoise vinyl seating and matching door panels. Equipment includes vent windows, sliding front windows, a new steering wheel, a passenger-side grab-handle, a second-row armrest, pop-out rear side windows, and a carpeted cargo area with a spare tire cavity.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
Instrumentation includes an 80-mph speedometer, a fuel gauge, and a dash-mounted clock. The five-digit analog odometer shows 26 miles, reflecting the mileage accrued since the restoration was finished. The true mileage on this vehicle is unknown.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The rebuilt, rear-mounted 1,600cc flat-four has a new wiring harness and transfers power to the rear wheels via a rebuilt four-speed manual transaxle.
UNDERCARRIAGE
New drum brakes and brake lines were installed and the master cylinder was rebuilt during the restoration. In addition, the front and rear suspensions were rebuilt.
