OVERVIEW
This frame-off-restored 1950 Mercury Eight is powered by a rebuilt 392ci Hemi V8 engine backed by a 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission. Features include a Fat Man Fabrications front suspension assembly, color-matched fender skirts, pop-out quarter windows, a Vintage Air climate control system, Dakota Digital gauges, a tilt steering column, and an Alpine AM/FM/CD/SiriusXM stereo. Finished in pearlescent black with custom pinstriping over a Nuance Cognac vinyl interior, this Mercury comes from the selling dealer with restoration documentation, receipts for the engine rebuild, and a clear Missouri title.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
During the frame-off restoration completed in 2005, the exterior was finished in pearlescent black with custom pinstriping. Features include chrome bumpers, a chrome grille, shaved hood trim, dual electric spotlights, color-matched rear fender skirts, pop-out quarter windows, full-length side trim, and a shaved trunk lid. A walk-around video can be seen below.
EXTERIOR - WHEELS AND TIRES
A set of black steel wheels with Cadillac sombrero hub caps is wrapped in whitewall radial tires.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
The front bench seat, rear seat, trim, and door panels are upholstered in Nuance Cognac vinyl. Features include manual steering and brakes, manual windows, Vintage Air climate controls, an Alpine AM/FM/CD/SiriusXM stereo, an American Autowire wiring harness, and a tilt steering column with an automatic transmission shifter.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
The set of Dakota Digital gauges located ahead of the driver includes LCD readouts for the speedometer, 8K-rpm tachometer, and fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. According to the selling dealer, the fuel gauge is inoperative. The odometer reads 899 miles, reflecting the mileage on the rebuilt engine. The true mileage on this vehicle is unknown.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
Power is provided by a rebuilt and balanced 392ci Hemi V8 engine and backed by a 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission. Engine bay features include aluminum Hot Heads valve covers; new pistons, rings, and connecting rods; a polished aluminum intake manifold; a chrome air cleaner; a chrome radiator hose cover; a chrome alternator; and orange inner fenders.
UNDERCARRIAGE
This Mercury is equipped with a Fat Man Fabrications independent front suspension assembly and a nine-inch solid rear drive axle. Braking is provided by manual four-wheel drums. A dual exhaust system exits at the rear.

@motoexotica – @MO53 Thank you for the questions. The receipt for the engine rebuild can be seen in photo #98, it had a total rebuild in 2005, car was finally completed in 2010. We purchased the car from an older gentleman that used the car after completion for car shows and didn't drive it much as you see. The paint, interior and engine compartment are near flawless and in excellent overall condition without any needs. There are NO leaks that we have found on the car. We didn't find any date codes on the tires, but they were most likely from the 2008-10 time frame, and while older have not been used or show any crackage as the car has always been garaged and covered. As to the gas tank, we have not tried to address the problem, but assume it has to do with the new electronic gauges and the old sending unit not talking to each other. There may be a work around on this, but we are not certain, hence we listed such. If you are looking for a turn key car that drives like a newer car, but has the lead sled look, then this is it! Current bid price is a long way from home, but will consider the high bid at the end of the day........ Thanks for looking Regards, Team MotoeXotica ...
Thanks for the quick response. I like the car and I’m pretty much a Ford purist, I have a 50 Ford Custom with original rebuilt 239 flathead and a 57 2 door Ranch Wagon with a rebuilt 390 and top loader 4 speed. I’m watching but I have to work around the Hemi engine, GM tranny, and Cadillac wheel covers.
@MO53 – When was the engine rebuild completed? Seems like very low miles since a 2005 restoration. Any leaks from engine or drive train? Date code on tires? Any idea why the fuel gauge doesn’t work? Electrical or tank float problem? ...
