Vehicle Story

This 1985 Mercedes-Benz 300CDT is one of 1,291 hardtop coupes produced for the year and it comes with extensive documentation. Power is delivered by a replacement 3.0-liter turbodiesel inline-5 paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. It was manufactured in Stuttgart, Germany in December 1984, first sold on June 13, 1985, from Weber Motors in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and reportedly remained with the original owner until 2017. Finished in dark gray metallic over a saddle MB-Tex interior, this Canadian-spec 300CDT is now offered with a CARFAX report, factory manuals, maintenance records, and a clear Alberta Vehicle Registration Certificate in the seller’s name.

The body is finished in its original coat of Blue/Black metallic (199) per the seller and shows well aside from some stone chips on the front end. Factory equipment includes a power sunroof, power antenna, and fog lamps inboard of the headlights. All glass including the windshield is original and in good condition according to the seller.

Factory 14” Bundt wheels are wrapped in 205/70 Michelin tires of unknown age. The car has new black center caps installed but comes with the original silver items.

The interior is fitted with Brazilian Brown MB-Tex bucket seats with matching door panels and carpeting. The dash is trimmed in woodgrain, which extends to the center console, and amenities include power windows, cruise control, and automatic climate control. The factory radio is fully functional.

Instrumentation consists of a 200-km/h speedometer, a 6k tachometer, an analog clock, and gauges for coolant temperature, fuel level, and oil pressure. The 6-digit mechanical odometer shows 95.5k kilometers (~59k miles), which the seller asserts is accurate and true.

A rebuilt 3.0-liter OM617 inline-5 turbodiesel was installed in 2017 because the car’s original engine had low compression in one cylinder. Compression readings on the new unit range from 390 to 400 psi in all cylinders. The battery was replaced in June 2020 and all other maintenance items are reportedly up to date. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a 4-speed automatic transmission.

Additional undercarriage photos can be found in the gallery.

The CARFAX report shows Alberta, Canada registration from new, documents damage in 2004 resulting in a repair of approximately $1,250, and indicates that the engine mounts, fuel lines, and radiator hose clamp were replaced in 2017. The sale includes receipts and documentation regarding the replacement engine, a binder of maintenance records, the factory owner’s manual, a tool case, and a first aid kit. In addition, the original engine is available, if desired.
