Vehicle Story

OVERVIEW

This restored 1942 Lincoln Continental is one of approximately 200 coupes produced for the 1942 model year. It receives power from a rebuilt 305ci flathead V12 mated to a three-speed manual transmission and a two-speed rear axle. It has been with the seller for 16 years and reportedly won a 1st place award from the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA). Equipment includes new Firestone whitewall tires, gold interior trim, rear wheel skirts, and an electric fuel pump. Finished in Victoria Coach Maroon over a burgundy cloth interior, this first-generation Continental is now offered with service records back to 1991 and a clear Virginia title in the seller's name.

EXTERIOR – FEATURES

The exterior was repainted Victoria Coach Maroon during a frame-up restoration under previous ownership in 1991. Exterior features include chrome bumpers, bright rocker and window moldings, rear fender skirts, a trunk, and a rear-mounted spare tire. The seller states there is a quarter-size rust spot on one of the rear fenders.

EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES

Steel 15-inch wheels with Lincoln-branded hubcaps are wrapped in new Firestone whitewall tires.

INTERIOR – FEATURES

The interior is fitted with reupholstered burgundy cloth bench seats, matched to the door panels, dash, and carpeting. Amenities include a radio, gold-tone trim, push-button door handles, and a clock.

INTERIOR – GAUGES

Instrumentation consists of a 110-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges for the fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 3,102 miles, but the true mileage on the chassis is unknown.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

The 305ci flathead V12 was rebuilt during the 1991 restoration and is fed by an upgraded electric fuel pump that runs off the six-volt electrical system. The seller states that an oil change and a lubrication service have been performed. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a column-shifted three-speed manual transmission and a Columbia two-speed rear axle.

UNDERCARRIAGE

Stopping power comes from four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

Service records dating back to 1991 come with the purchase of the car.
