OVERVIEW
This 1970 Volkswagen Type 2 Bus received a newer drivetrain, an overhauled interior, and fresh exterior cosmetics within the last five years. The rear-mounted flat-four has accrued fewer than 9,000 miles since installation and comes mated to a three-speed manual transaxle. Equipment includes interior provisions for seating, storage, and organization along with a set of new Coker Classic whitewall tires, a luggage rack, newer rear brakes, and a refurbished front end. Finished in two-tone taupe and white over a white vinyl interior, this Type 2 is now offered with spare parts, receipts, an owner’s manual, and a clear Washington title in the seller’s name.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
In 2019, the exterior was repainted in its reportedly original two-tone combination of taupe and white. Exterior features include white bumpers, chrome headlight rings, dual mirrors, a new sunroof, and a roof-mounted luggage rack. The seller states that all of the windows, rubber trim, and seals have been replaced.
EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES
New 14-inch steel wheels with moon hubcaps are wrapped in new Coker Classic 205/75 whitewall tires.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
The fully refurbished interior is fitted with reupholstered white vinyl bucket seats, white vinyl door panels, and a black dash up front. A new AM/FM/CD radio has been installed. The rear cargo/passenger compartment has been repurposed to function as a lounge or office space, complete with a plaid cloth chair, wicker storage baskets, a bench, pillows, a rug, an upholstered cargo box, and a spare tire housed in a vinyl cover. New flooring covers a sound-damping underlayment.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
Instrumentation includes a speedometer and a fuel gauge, both of which are functional, according to the seller. The odometer reads 32,844 miles, which the seller states reflects the mileage on the body.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The professionally rebuilt and tuned rear-mounted flat-four has accrued 8,800 miles since installation, according to the seller. A new Duralast battery was installed in March 2023. Power is sent to the rear wheels via an overhauled floor-shifted three-speed manual transaxle. The video below shows the engine idling.
UNDERCARRIAGE
The chassis received new front-end components within the last two years. The receipts in the gallery to the right show the upper and lower ball joints, CV boots, and rear brakes were replaced within the last two years.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
The sale includes an owner’s manual, receipts, and spare parts.

You state that it has a three speed manual. Was the VW transaxle replaced with another type? Just wondering
