Vehicle Story

OVERVIEW

This 1975 Porsche 914 is a mid-engine sports car that sends power from the reportedly original 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine through a five-speed manual transmission to the rear 15-inch wheels. Features include an Ansa exhaust system, Bilstein shocks, Eibach springs, a removable Targa top, and a Kenwood AM/FM/CD/AUX audio system. Finished in Nepal Orange over a black vinyl interior, this Porsche 914/4 comes from the selling dealer with a Porsche Production Specifications document and a clear California title.

EXTERIOR – FEATURES

The exterior was refinished in the original color of Nepal Orange (code E5) and comes equipped with pop-up headlights, fog lights, light green-tinted window glass with VW etching, a driver-side mirror, a black removable Targa top, and an Ansa exhaust system with the factory heat exchangers and two pairs of outlets. The windshield has been replaced with an XYG unit with a 2020 date code.

EXTERIOR - WHEELS AND TIRES

This 914 sits on black 15-inch five-spoke wheels and 195/65 Kumho tires.

INTERIOR – FEATURES

The cockpit features newer black vinyl upholstery, black carpeting, manual windows, and a Kenwood AM/FM/CD/AUX radio. Wear is visible on the shift knob.

INTERIOR – GAUGES

Behind the four-spoke steering wheel are a center-mounted 7K-rpm tachometer, a 150-mph speedometer, a fuel gauge, and warning lights. The five-digit analog odometer shows 64,054 miles, but the actual mileage on this car is unknown.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

The reportedly original mid-mounted 1.8-liter four-cylinder is connected to a five-speed manual transmission, which sends the engine’s output to the rear wheels. The selling dealer states the original L-Jetronic fuel injection and emissions systems were removed and replaced with Weber 40 IDF-style Sooge carburetors.

UNDERCARRIAGE

The suspension is equipped with torsion bars, Bilstein shocks, and Eibach springs. The ride height has been lowered by 35 millimeters in the front and 40 millimeters in the back.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

A Porsche Production Specifications document will be included with the purchase of the car.

@johnscarnato – Hello, have the bumpers been changed out to an earlier year or are you sure this is a 1975. I have had several 914’s and the 1975 had heavy wider all black bumpers. Thin chrome bumpers on earlier years. Thanks ...

it is a 1975 Model Year, the title says 1975 and the vin decodes as such.

Concur with @Johnscarnato 1975 should have the larger black rubber bumpers. There's a lot right with this bu a lot wrong, too. Looks good from far away, but the close inspection shows the need for a more thorough restoration than just paint. Panel fit is poor for some reason. Wheels need to have the bad paint blasted and the curb rash repaired. Although the Bosch FI helped that 1.8L produce a whopping 76hp, the dual Weber carbs are too much carb for that little engine (in my opinion). Does the carb sync tool come as part of the sale? That carb conversion and the aftermarket exhaust without cats might make it tough to register in California. I don't know if CA has some grandfather clause for a car this vintage, or if it would still qualify as a "classic" there. Do you have any better pictures of the battery tray area where these always have some rust rot or need of repair?
