OVERVIEW
This 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner project car has been with the seller for approximately nine years and is powered by a 292ci two-barrel V8 engine backed by a three-speed automatic transmission. Features include power steering, an AM radio, an overhauled retractable hardtop, rebuilt cylinder heads, and a refurbished power brake system. Finished in Coral Sand and Colonial White over a multicolored animal print cloth interior, this Skyliner comes with a copy of the original title, removed parts, shop and electrical assembly manuals, and a clear Arizona title.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
The exterior retains most of the original factory-applied Coral Sand and Colonial White paint. Features include chrome bumpers, a driver-side mirror, a fender-mounted antenna base, vacuum-operated windshield wipers, a functional retractable hardtop, and Fairlane 500 trim. Repairs have been made to the front driver-side fender and the rear passenger-side body panel. The seller states that corrosion is present at the rear of the passenger-side fender, which is shown in the gallery to the right. Two videos of the retractable top in operation are available below.
EXTERIOR - WHEELS AND TIRES
A set of 15-inch steel wheels with 1956 Fairlane hub caps is wrapped in radial tires.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
The front bench seat and the rear seat were originally upholstered with brown Airweave vinyl, but are now covered in multicolored animal print cloth. Features include power steering, power brakes, manual windows, a column-mounted shifter, and a Town and Country AM radio. The carpet and headliner are not present.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
A 120-mph speedometer and gauges for the fuel level and engine temperature are located ahead of the driver. The odometer reads 96,009 miles, which the seller reports to be accurate.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The original 312ci four-barrel V8 has been replaced with a 292ci two-barrel V8, which is backed by a three-speed automatic transmission. The radiator has been re-cored, the cylinder heads have been rebuilt, and a chrome air cleaner has been added. A video of the engine running can be seen below.
UNDERCARRIAGE
This Fairlane was factory-equipped with an independent front suspension and a solid rear drive axle. Braking is provided by rebuilt power four-wheel drums. The dual exhaust system is missing the passenger-side pipe after the muffler.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
The seller will include a copy of the original title, the removed parts shown in the gallery on the right, and shop and electrical assembly manuals with the purchase of the car.
