OVERVIEW
This restored 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z11 Indy 500 pace car convertible is one of 3,675 pace cars produced to commemorate the 53rd annual Indianapolis 500 race on May 30, 1969. It is powered by a rebuilt 350ci V8 engine backed by a Turbo-Hydramatic three-speed automatic transmission. Features include Indy Sport Convertible Accents, the Rally Sport and Super Sport packages, hide-away headlights, a cowl-induction hood, a rear spoiler, power steering, and power brakes. Finished in Dover White with Hugger Orange stripes and equipped with a white vinyl convertible top over an orange vinyl and houndstooth cloth interior, this Camaro is available now and comes from the selling dealer with a convertible top boot, the Body Broadcast Copy, the window sticker, the original build sheet, a copy of the original invoice, an NCRS (National Corvette Restorers Society) Shipping Data Report, an ownership log, inspection receipts, and a clear title.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
During the restoration, the exterior was professionally prepared and refinished in Dover White (paint code 50) with Hugger Orange Z28 stripes. Features include chrome bumpers, a black front chin spoiler, RS hide-away headlights, SS emblems, a ZL2 cowl-induction hood, a fender-mounted antenna, dual mirrors, pace car door lettering, a manual white vinyl convertible top, rocker moldings, a rear spoiler, and RS taillights and reverse lights.
EXTERIOR - WHEELS AND TIRES
A set of 14-inch steel Chevrolet Rally wheels with center caps and trim rings is wrapped in Firestone Wide Oval bias-ply tires.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
The front bucket seats and the rear seat are upholstered in orange vinyl with orange and black houndstooth cloth seating areas. Features include simulated woodgrain accents, a center console-mounted automatic shifter, power steering and brakes, manual windows, an AM/FM stereo, and a three-spoke sport steering wheel with a wood rim.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
A 120-mph speedometer, a 7K-rpm tachometer, and a clock are located ahead of the driver. A set of gauges for the fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and battery voltage is positioned at the front of the center console. The odometer reads 72,368 miles, which the selling dealer reports to be accurate.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
Power is provided by a rebuilt 350ci V8 engine connected to finned aluminum valve covers, a Quadrajet four-barrel carburetor, and a Turbo-Hydramatic three-speed automatic transmission. The selling dealer states that the engine has the correct casting number for an Indy 500 pace car.
UNDERCARRIAGE
This Camaro is equipped with an independent front suspension and a 12-bolt differential with 3.07:1 Detroit gears. The front frame stub, suspension components, and underbody have been refinished in matte black. Braking is provided by power front discs and rear drums. A dual exhaust system exits at the rear.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
The selling dealer charges a $125 document fee in addition to the sale price.The NCRS Shipping Data Report that comes with the car shows this Camaro was produced on March 27, 1969 and originally delivered to Mayfield Chevrolet in Ellijay, Georgia. The selling dealer will also include a convertible top boot, the Body Broadcast Copy, the window sticker, the original build sheet, a copy of the original invoice from Bill McDaniel Chevrolet in Murphy, North Carolina, an ownership log, and inspection receipts as part of the sale.

I also have a photo of the engine pad stamp. See attached. This tells us it was produced at the Tonawanda Engine Plant, March 12th assembly date, and for a 1969 350cid-300hp engine with automatic transmission. This appears to be the original/correct engine based on the assembly date.

Excellent question! I have attached a photo of the engine casting number (2nd pic). The current owner of this 69 Camaro Pace car maintains it is a matching numbers engine & trans. Based on the engine casting number it is the Correct 1969 350cid, 300hp option for this car. The photo for the transmission is also attached (1st pic) and it includes a partial VIN so it appears to be the original TH350 automatic transmission for this 1969 Camaro.
