Vehicle Story

OVERVIEW

This 1970 Volkswagen Beetle underwent an inside-and-out refresh inclusive of newer upholstery, a suspension overhaul, and a serviced fuel system. Power comes via a rebuilt 1,600cc flat-four mated to a four-speed manual transaxle and traction is provided by a set of Delinte tires on chrome wheels. Finished in Willow Green over an ivory vinyl interior, this Beetle is now offered by the selling dealer with a clear California title.

EXTERIOR – FEATURES

This Beetle coupe’s Willow Green exterior finish was restored under prior ownership and the car received new fenders, running boards, glass, and rubber as part of the work effort. Features include new chrome bumpers, dual sideview mirrors, pop-out rear windows, and a replacement exhaust system with a single outlet.

EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES

Chrome Porsche-style 15-inch wheels with VW-branded center caps are wrapped in 195/65-sized Delinte tires.

INTERIOR – FEATURES

The interior is fitted with perforated ivory vinyl seats up front and a matching bench in the rear, contrasted by light green industrial-grade carpeting and a Willow Green painted dashboard. Amenities include lap belts and a radio.

INTERIOR – GAUGES

Instrumentation includes a 90-mph speedometer with an inset fuel gauge. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 42,635 miles.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

The rear-mounted 1,600cc flat-four was sourced from a 1968-model-year vehicle and has been rebuilt. Equipment includes rebuilt carburetors, a new fuel tank, new fuel lines, and a new wiring loom. Power is fed to the rear wheels via a rebuilt floor-shifted four-speed manual transaxle.

UNDERCARRIAGE

The sway bars, tie rods, shock absorbers, and brakes were replaced during restoration. Photos showing the underside are available in the carousel.

I bought a new 1970 bug. Had pop out rear windows and tall seat backs. Also larger front turn signals. Perhaps this one was altered or model year incorrect.
