OVERVIEW
This 1964 Ford Galaxie 500XL two-door fastback received work within the past year on the suspension, braking system, carburetor, and tires. It is powered by a 390ci FE V8 mated to a Cruise-O-Matic three-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes Engineered Components Company power front disc brakes, American Racing wheels, a rebuilt Holley carburetor, new front-end suspension and steering components from Bud's Classic Car, auxiliary gauges, cooling system upgrades, and bucket seats. Finished in Raven Black over a black vinyl interior, this Galaxie 500XL is now offered with documentation, receipts, a shop manual, and a clear title.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
According to the seller, the body has not had major corrosion issues. The Raven Black (color code A) exterior features a fastback roofline, quad headlights with eyelids, chrome bumpers, bodyside moldings, dual mirrors, and an antenna.
EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES
The chrome 15-inch American Racing wheels are wrapped in Solar 4XS+ radial tires.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
The cabin is furnished with black vinyl bucket seats and matching materials for the rear bench seat, door panels, dash, center console, and carpeting. According to the seller, the front seats received new foam inserts within the last 12 months. Equipment includes lap belts, a radio, a spare tire, and associated jack equipment.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
Instrumentation consists of a sweeping 120-mph speedometer, a fuel gauge, a coolant temperature gauge, and warning lights for the oil pressure and voltage. Auxiliary gauges for the oil pressure, voltage, and coolant temperature have been added under the dash and an 8K-rpm auxiliary tachometer is located at the top of the center console. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 81,448 miles, but the true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The 390ci FE V8 has been upgraded with a chrome-finished Edelbrock air cleaner and newer ignition components. Within the past year, the generator and regulator were replaced and the Holley carburetor was rebuilt. The cooling system has been upgraded with a reportedly more efficient alloy radiator and a catch tank. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a Cruise-O-Matic three-speed automatic transmission.
UNDERCARRIAGE
Engineered Components Company power front disc brakes and power rear drums bring the car to a stop. The seller reports the front disc-brake conversion and new rear shoes, master cylinder, and brake booster were installed within the past year. In addition, new front-end suspension and steering components from Bud's Classic Car were added and an alignment was performed.
