Finished in Black over a black vinyl interior, this 1972 Dodge Challenger is powered by a matching-numbers 318ci V8 that has been stroked to 390ci and paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes air conditioning, power brakes, manual steering, bucket seats, and a center console. Sold originally in Sacramento and now located in San Diego, this Challenger has spent its entire life in California from new and is now offered with a clean California title in the seller’s name.
The exterior has been refinished in its original shade of Black and features a period correct R/T ram-air hood, dual color-keyed outside mirrors, and a rear deck lid spoiler. Turn indicators are mounted into the front valance underneath the chrome bumper, while a quad-tip exhaust exits through the rear lower valance
Five-spoke 20” custom alloy wheels are finished in black and mounted to 245/35 Nexen tires, while braking is handled by 4-wheel Baer discs.
High-back bucket seats are upholstered in pleated black vinyl and divided by a woodgrain-accented center console. The interior has been refurbished with new vinyl seat covers, a reproduction dash, new carpeting, door panels, and headliner while retaining the original glass, trim and chrome. Carpeting in the floor and trunk are fitted over Dynomat insulation.
The three-spoke steering wheel features a wood rim and frames the instrument cluster. The dash houses a retro-look modern radio with component speakers added in the rear shelf, along with two Rockford Fosgate amplifiers and a subwoofer in the trunk. The five-digit odometer shows just over 73k miles, which are claimed as original by the seller
The original 318ci block was stroked to 390ci and is fed by a 750 cfm Holley double pumper carburetor and features an aluminum intake manifold & heads, moderate cam, and MSD electronic ignition. The Torqueflite 3-speed transmission is equipped with a new torque converter and transfers power to a rebuilt posi-traction rear end.
The suspension has been upgraded with Hotchkiss components, and additional photos of the underside can be seen in the gallery.
Included in the sale are an original broadcast sheet and receipts from 2012-2017 from the prior owner for work performed on the build totaling over $40,000.
