OVERVIEW
This 1963 MG MGB roadster was manufactured in February of its model year and underwent an inside-and-out restoration completed in 2015. It receives power from a refurbished, numbers-matching 1.8-liter inline-four coupled with an upgraded four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Equipment includes wire wheels, chrome brightwork, and an independent front suspension. Finished in Iris Blue and equipped with a white removable soft top over a blue vinyl interior, this MKI MGB is now offered by the selling dealer with British Motor Industry Heritage Trust documentation, factory literature, a driver’s handbook, a service manual, a toolkit, touch-up paint, a tonneau cover, and a clear title.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
The exterior was repaired and refinished in Iris Blue (BU12) and equipped with a new white removable soft top with plastic rear windows during the 2015 restoration. Exterior features include chrome bumpers with overriders, side moldings, a driver-side mirror, and a dual-outlet exhaust system. The selling dealer notes that some areas of the exterior have been touched up. Photos from various stages of the restoration process are in the gallery to the right.
EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES
Chrome-finished 14-inch wire wheels with knock-off center caps are wrapped in 5.60-14 whitewall bias-ply tires that were replaced during the restoration.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
The two-seat cockpit is furnished with reupholstered blue vinyl buckets with Iris Blue piping. Amenities include an ashtray, vent windows, and a banjo-style steering wheel. A full-size spare tire is mounted in the trunk.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
Instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer, a 7,000-rpm tachometer, and supporting gauges for the fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 78,537 miles, which the selling dealer reports to be accurate.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The numbers-matching 1.8-liter inline-four was sorted during the restoration process, according to the selling dealer. The motor was also serviced within the last month and received new fluids, points, spark plugs, and spark plug wires as well as a new ignition coil and distributor. The selling dealer states that the fuel sending unit is currently being repaired. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via an upgraded four-speed manual transmission with overdrive.
UNDERCARRIAGE
The suspension architecture consists of independent coil springs up front and semi-elliptical leaf springs in the rear. The selling dealer notes minor corrosion on the undercarriage, primarily around the battery cradle. The front suspension bushings have been replaced.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
The sale includes a signed British Motor Industry Heritage Trust production document issued in 2014, a toolkit, factory literature, a service manual, a blue vinyl tonneau cover, a driver’s handbook, and Iris Blue touch-up paint. The selling dealer has provided a series of videos including lighting demonstrations, an exterior walk-around, a cold start, and a warm start.

@Roony – Fresh out of factory pictures of ‘63 MGB and all other pictures of this car show Blackwall tires. I cannot find an MGB with white walls other than this one ...
Roony, thanks for your comment. Here are copies of Nov 1962 and Mar 1963 Road and Track and Sports Car World magazines, respectively. Whitewalls were a period appropriate option. In fact, I will include these vintage magazines to the winner, along with the British Heritage Certificate and other documentation. Thanks for bidding and good luck! We're very close and it's about to get very exciting!

@PeninsulaGuy – What’s with the two $11,000 bids from two people? ...
Hello there! AutoHunter uses an automatic bidding prices, so when someone places a bid with a higher maximum number it "saves their spot" next to that correlating number. The example is with the $11,000 bid, user Meh tried to bid $11,000, but because user Jeffloriandrea had already "saved" their name next to the $11,000 bid first, they were awarded the bid price and not user Meh. When using automatic bidding, it is best described as a "first come first served" process when placing bids. The system will always keep you in first place until your maximum number entered, so you do not have to keep a watchful eye on the auction and place individual bids. I hope this helps and happy bidding!

Bidders, thank you for your interest so far and for the inquiries you've made. One of you can call this car yours this afternoon! The quintessential summer roadster with the whole summer stretched out before you to enjoy it. I will be close by until the auction bell rings, so please feel free to reach out. 'Jeffloriandrea,' synchromesh allows one to downshift smoothly through the gears by aligning the speed of the output shaft with the gear that you are shifting down to. So, with synchro in 3rd and 2nd gears, it means that you can smoothly pull the shifter into that gear from the gear above when downshifting. Most vehicles of this era didn't have synchro in 1st because it is so low that there really is no need for it. You are stopping, most likely anyway. So no, the car runs beautifully and if you really wanted to downshift into 1st, you can either stop (output shaft will not be moving and hence the L transmission will shift into 1st), or you can double clutch and perform the same maneuver. Bottom line, the vehicle is performing exactly as it is supposed to! Thanks for asking and thanks for your bid!

Not sure what you mean by transmission not synchro in 1st gear. Does the car actually kill out when coasting to stop in 1st gear?
'Oneprw,' The transmission and clutch function beautifully and shift smoothly up and down through the gears. The engine/exhaust note can't be captured by video as you shift, but the car sounds amazing and it is exhilarating to drive. This transmission is synchro in 3rd and 2nd, but not first. It is no hardship at that low speed to coast to a light or stop sign and restart in 1st. That's what the manufacturer intended, anyway. Thanks!
