400-Powered 1980 Pontiac Firebird Formula

OVERVIEW

This 1980 Pontiac Firebird Formula sport coupe received a mechanical overhaul in 2002 that included the installation of a 400cid V8 engine upgrade and a replacement three-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes power steering and brakes, air conditioning, Hedman headers, an Edelbrock carburetor, a COMP Cams camshaft, a center console, and newer BFGoodrich tires. Finished in white and blue over a refurbished pearl white vinyl interior, this second-generation Firebird is now offered with service records and a clear title in the seller’s name.

EXTERIOR – FEATURES

The white exterior is complemented by dark blue lower accents and Formula rocker decals. Body features include quad headlights, dual hood inlets, a newly replaced windshield, color-keyed mirror caps, a three-piece urethane rear spoiler, and a quad-outlet exhaust system with Maremont Vortex mufflers.

EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES

The 15-inch factory wheels have been repainted and are wrapped in one-year-old BFGoodrich Radial T/A raised-white-letter tires.

INTERIOR – FEATURES

The refurbished two-tone cockpit is fitted with pearl white vinyl high-back bucket seats up front, a bench in the rear, and matching door panels. The console, dash, carpeting, seat belts, and embroidered floor mats are black. Features include engine-turned aluminum dash trim, a newer AM/FM/CD radio, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a spare tire. The seller notes that air conditioning is installed but inoperative.

INTERIOR – GAUGES

The nonfunctional instrumentation includes an 85-mph speedometer, a clock, and gauges for the fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 68,817 miles, but the true mileage on the chassis is unknown.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

The 400cid V8 was installed in 2002 by Bill’s Automotive in Holmen, Wisconsin. Equipment added at the time included Edelbrock Performer RPM cylinder heads, an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold and 750cfm carburetor, a COMP Cams camshaft, hardened pushrods and rocker arms, an adjustable double-roller timing chain set, a harmonic balancer, and Hedman Husler headers. Additionally, the belts, hoses, thermostat, fuel and air filters, transmission fluid, transmission cooler lines, and modulator vacuum tube were replaced. The fluids were changed in 2021 and the battery was replaced in the spring of 2023 per the seller. Power is fed to the rear wheels via a replacement console-shifted three-speed automatic transmission.
