OVERVIEW
This restored 1958 Pontiac Star Chief is powered by a 370cid V8 backed by a Hydra-Matic three-speed automatic transmission. Features include power brakes and steering, an AM radio, newer fuel delivery and braking systems, and several rebuilt or replaced parts. Finished in a Patina Ivory and Redwood Copper two-tone over a matching cloth and vinyl interior, this Pontiac comes from the selling dealer with a clear title.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
During the cosmetic restoration in 2016, the exterior was refinished in the original colors of Redwood Copper (code U) and Patina Ivory (code V). Features include chrome bumpers, a driver-side mirror with a manual remote, full-length side trim, a hidden fuel filler, and a rear-mounted antenna. New wiring for the brake and reverse lights was installed in April 2020.
EXTERIOR - WHEELS AND TIRES
A set of Redwood Copper 14-inch steel wheels with full hubcaps is wrapped in G78-14 Coker Classic whitewall bias-ply tires.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
The front bench seat and the rear seat are upholstered in Patina Ivory vinyl with Redwood Copper cloth seating areas. Features include power steering, manual windows, a column-mounted automatic transmission shifter, and an AM radio. The selling dealer states that the windshield wiper motor was rebuilt and the dashboard top pad and upholstery were replaced in 2016.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
A 120-mph speedometer, clock, and gauges for the fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and generator are located ahead of the driver. The odometer reads 2,546 miles, but the true mileage on this vehicle is unknown. The selling dealer states that the gauges and clock were rebuilt in 2016.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
Power is provided by the reportedly original 370cid V8 and backed by a Hydra-Matic three-speed automatic transmission. The selling dealer states that the battery and the radiator cap were replaced and an oil change was performed in April 2020. They also note there is a slight valve cover leak, but it does not leak enough to leave a puddle.
UNDERCARRIAGE
This Pontiac was factory-equipped with an independent front suspension and a solid rear drive axle. Braking is provided by power drums. The selling dealer states that the engine and transmission seals, fuel delivery system, brake system, and dual exhaust system with glasspack mufflers were replaced in 2016. Additionally, there is a minor exhaust leak and the front springs are a little weak.

@paulrmckenna – Magnificent automobile. What type paint? Under carriage photos available? ...
Thank you! It truly is one of my favorites out of all the cars we've had or have... I really haven't got a clue what kind of paint was put on it... looks pretty OK though. Certainly gets lots of attention when I'm scooting around town in it.

@Centsible – At the risk of spamming my own auction, I've been researching the tires more... I looked at another car with Cokers on it, and it clearly had a date code. I then looked at a picture of the car when it sold after being stored in a warehouse for 30+ years... and these tires * COULD * be the same ones. I just don't know. it's one of those things I never paid much attention to because they aren't dry rotted, cracked, or otherwise showing signs of failure. ...
Same with my Vette. Now I use the old tires for storage

@Centsible, Is the divers seat the only bad spot in the interior? Years ago I bought a chopped 50 Mercury with custom paint. It had, what appeared to be new tires (Coker Classics). Driving back from a show, the drivers side tire blew and destroyed the bottom of my front fender and rocker panel. That was a costly mistake to fix and match the paint. The tires, although they looked new were actually more than 20 years old. Now when I get a car I look at the date code that is required by the DOT, and if the tire are over 8 years old, I personally replace them. It's a lot cheaper in the long run. Most tire stores will tell you to replace them if they are older than 5 years old. It use to be 10. Just saying, this is a great car. You see more Chevys than Pontiacs. GLWA.
@IdealChevy – I appreciate that I bet you’re right …thanks ...

@Centsible – Regarding the oil leak, I think it's primarily the valve covers but there may be some other minor stuff, it doesn't leave any drips / puddles when it's parked. I've personally driven this car around quite a bit and never had an issue. It's actually one of my all-time favorites out of the classics we have. The story we got when we bought it is that it was driven about 1500 miles to the sale by the owner. ...
