Vehicle Story

This 1985 Chevrolet K10 one-owner pickup has been powered by a professionally installed 1993 5.9-liter 12-valve Cummins turbodiesel V8 for six years, and it is paired with a rebuilt NV4500 5-speed manual transmission. Features include a rebuilt NP205 transfer case, 4" Rancho suspension lift with new shocks, a modern stereo system, new wheel and tires, and a tonneau cover. This pickup is now offered by the with a clean CARFAX report, all engine work invoices, documentation from new, and a clear Montana title in the owner’s name.

The long-bed body is finished in white with aluminum running boards, chrome bumpers, a tonneau cover, a plastic bug guard, and a receiver hitch. The body is free of rust per the seller.

Aftermarket 15” Ultra polished aluminum wheels are wrapped in new 31”x10.50" BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A tires. A 4” Rancho soft-ride lift kit with new shocks is installed.

The interior is trimmed in brown cloth with matching door panels and carpet, and a tri-tone dash with woodgrain trim panels. Features include an aftermarket AM/FM/CD head unit and train horns.

Instrumentation is framed by a two-spoke black steering wheel and consists of an 85-mph speedometer, an aftermarket 5k tachometer mounted to the A-pillar, and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The 5-digit analog odometer shows approximately 36k miles, though true mileage is unknown.

The 5.9-liter 12-valve Cummins V8 turbo-diesel was taken from a 1993 Dodge and professionally installed by Auto World Conversions in Great Falls, Montana in 2015. The engine currently has 25k miles and the oil was changed in January 2021. Per the seller, the NV4500 5-speed manual transmission and NP205 transfer case with manually locking hubs have been rebuilt.

Additional photos showing the underside are available in the gallery.

The sale includes invoices from the drivetrain swap and all service work performed, as well as select documentation dating back to the truck’s original sale.

@BisbeeKid – Looks to be a nice build, question on registering though is in an emissions testing protocol with an engine type switch how does it clear that hurdle? Does it have a check engine light on? Post 81 General motors vehicles had an ALDL ports does this vehicle still have any active monitoring systems. Areas that require admissions may be difficult to clear without an exemption sheet. Does it have the omissions from the donor truck hooked up? ...

it was a 6.5 diesel previously and a 1985 - so none of that is applicable...there was no emissions on the 93 Dodge - emissions testing isn't an issue in Montana, i would check with your State, generally the age makes them exempt.

@bonanza – Have you ever checked miles per gallon? Are there any cracks underneath the dash cover? Can you lock up the tonneau cover? ...

it gets 20 in town and 25 @ 70 mph highway...yes, there are some cracks, reparable by a good upholstery guy or lmc truck has replacements, the tonneau cover is not the lockable version.

@SpannerTramp – Has the 1993 Cummins 6BT had the Killer Dowel retaining tab kit installed? ...

the motor came out of a barn-find truck with very little mileage on it, we did not take the cover off as the dowel pin problem is rare in the rotary motors..we did however, rebuilt the rotary pump...so that's fairly fresh...i don't think that was mentioned in the story.
