5.7L VORTEC-POWERED 1961 INTERNATIONAL METRO VAN

OVERVIEW

This 1961 International Harvester Metro Van was reportedly produced for use as a jitney bus in Atlantic City, New Jersey. It is equipped with the 5.7-liter Vortec V8 and 4L60 four-speed overdrive automatic transmission sourced from a 2001 Chevrolet Express van. Features include a custom chassis, a Detroit Speed independent front suspension assembly, an Art Morrison four-link rear suspension, power steering, Wilwood front disc brakes, rear air conditioning, a tilt steering column, and an Alpine stereo with Bluetooth and a subwoofer. Finished in white and blue with simulated woodgrain trim over a brown leather interior, this International comes with the key to the onboard farebox and a clear title.

EXTERIOR – FEATURES

The exterior is finished in blue with a white roof, simulated woodgrain and bamboo trim, and custom mural graphics. Features include a chrome grille, dual mirrors, roof clearance lights, body-color bumpers, sliding rear windows, custom tail lights, and a hinged rear compartment.

EXTERIOR - WHEELS AND TIRES

A set of chrome 18-inch front and 20-inch rear Coys wheels is wrapped in radial tires.

INTERIOR – FEATURES

The custom interior features six aluminum bomber-style Iron Ace seats with distressed brown leather cushions. Features include Iron Ace cup holders, rear air conditioning, LED lighting, an Alpine AM/FM/Bluetooth stereo with eight speakers and a subwoofer, a black treadplate floor, gray trim, a three-spoke steering wheel with a wood rim, a floor-mounted automatic transmission shifter, the original farebox, and custom lettering.

INTERIOR – GAUGES

A set of Dakota Digital analog gauges that includes a 160-mph speedometer, an 8,000-rpm tachometer, and readouts for the fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and voltage is located in a custom panel ahead of the driver. The odometer reads 3,650 miles, all of which were added under current ownership, but the true mileage on this vehicle is unknown.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

Power is provided by a 5.7-liter Vortec V8 and backed by a 4L60 four-speed overdrive automatic transmission. Both units were sourced from a 2001 Chevrolet Express van.

UNDERCARRIAGE

This International van is equipped with a custom chassis that features a Detroit Speed independent front suspension assembly and a solid rear axle mounted with an Art Morrison four-link setup. Coil-over shocks are mounted at all four corners. Braking is provided by Wilwood front discs and rear drums. A dual exhaust system exits at the sides ahead of the rear wheels.
