OVERVIEW
This 1996 Mercedes-Benz SL500 two-passenger roadster has driven 56,405 miles since new and comes with a removable hardtop as well as the standard-issue cloth retractable top. It receives power from an M119 5.0-liter V8 mated to a five-speed automatic transmission and was serviced earlier this year. Equipment includes burled walnut trim, newer Continental tires, automatic climate control, and a Pioneer audio system. Finished in Imperial Red and equipped with a black cloth retractable top over an ivory leather interior, this R129 SL is now offered by the selling dealer with the car’s original grille, service records, a CARFAX report, and a clear title.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
The Imperial Red exterior was resprayed under prior ownership at an unknown time and shows well per the selling dealer. The front grille was replaced with an aftermarket unit, and the original (without an emblem) is included with the sale. Exterior features include fog lamps, vented fenders, body-colored bumpers and body cladding, headlight wipers, and an antenna. The seller notes that there is a small tear in the plastic rear window.
EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES
Aluminum 16-inch wheels are wrapped in 225/55 Continental tires that were replaced in 2020.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
The two-seat cabin is trimmed with perforated ivory leather power-adjustable buckets, matched to the door panels, dash, carpeting, and floor mats. Amenities include burled walnut trim, automatic climate control, a Pioneer AM/FM/CD radio with newer Bose speakers, power windows, cruise control, a power-tilt steering wheel, visor vanity mirrors, and a deployable roll bar.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
Instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer, a 7,000-rpm tachometer, a clock, and auxiliary gauges for fuel level, instantaneous fuel economy, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The digital odometer reads 56,405 miles.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The M119 5.0-liter DOHC 32-valve V8 was rated at 315 horsepower and 347 lb-ft of torque when new and was reportedly serviced in early 2023. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a console-shifted five-speed automatic transmission.
UNDERCARRIAGE
Chassis underpinnings consist of independent damper struts up front and an independent multi-link setup in the rear.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
Service records will be included with the sale.
