Vehicle Story

OVERVIEW

This 1956 Mercedes-Benz 190SL roadster received mechanical updates including a carburetor rebuild, a new starter, new exhaust system hardware, and replacement brake drums. It is powered by an M121 1.9-liter inline-four mated to a four-speed manual transmission and comes with whitewall tires, a radio, and a double-wishbone front suspension. Finished in black and equipped with a black retractable soft top over a reupholstered oxblood leather interior, this 190SL is now offered by the selling dealer with documentation, a removable body-color hardtop, the removed original seat covers and carpeting, and a clear title.

EXTERIOR – FEATURES

The black exterior was reportedly repainted under prior ownership about 20 years ago. There are some small paint chips noted around the perimeter of the body. Features include chrome brightwork, fog lamps, dual mirrors, and rocker moldings.

EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES

Steel 13-inch wheels with body-color hub caps are wrapped in new whitewall tires.

INTERIOR – FEATURES

The refurbished two-seat interior is fitted with oxblood leather low-back bucket seats matched to the door panels and carpeting. Features include a radio and manual-crank windows. The headliner and weatherstripping for the included removable hardtop were replaced.

INTERIOR – GAUGES

Instrumentation includes a 140-mph speedometer, a 7,000-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for the oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 36,200 miles, although the selling dealer states that the true mileage on the chassis is unknown.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

The M121 1.9-liter inline-four was rated at 104 horsepower and 105 lb-ft of torque when new. It received a new fuel tank and lines, a carburetor rebuild, fresh fluids, a new starter, a new battery, and a replacement exhaust system. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a floor-shifted four-speed synchronized manual transmission.

UNDERCARRIAGE

Underpinnings consist of a double-wishbone front suspension and rear swing axles with coil springs. The passenger-side floor pan and drum brake cylinders and lines have been replaced, according to the dealer.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

The sale includes documentation, a removable body-color hardtop, and the removed original seat covers and carpeting.
