OVERVIEW
This 1979 Mercedes-Benz 450SL roadster is equipped with both a retractable soft top and a removable body-color hardtop. It draws power from an unmodified 4.5-liter V8 mated to a three-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. Features include power steering, power disc brakes, and a Pioneer CD stereo system. Finished in Light Ivory and equipped with a black cloth retractable soft top over a saddle vinyl interior, this R107 450SL is now offered with the removable hardtop, an owner's manual, and a clear title.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
The reportedly original Light Ivory (code 623) exterior is equipped with fog lamps, European-style headlights, bumper guards, bodyside moldings, chrome mirror caps, and a power antenna. The seller states that there are two small rust areas where the removable hardtop meets the body.
EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES
Chrome 15-inch wheels are wrapped in 215/60 Falken Sincera Touring tires. One of the wheels is missing a center cap.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
The two-seat interior is fitted with saddle vinyl buckets, matched to the door panels, center console, dash, carpeting, and embroidered floor mats. Features include automatic climate control, power windows, cruise control, a Pioneer AM/FM/CD radio, and power steering.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
The VDO-branded instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer, a 7,000-rpm tachometer, a clock, and auxiliary gauges showing the fuel level and coolant temperature. The six-digit mechanical odometer reads 107,603 miles, which the seller states is the actual mileage.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The 4.5-liter V8 uses a Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection system and was rated at 180 horsepower and 220 lb-ft of torque when new. A recent oil change has been performed. There are no known mechanical issues per the seller. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a console-shifted three-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential.
UNDERCARRIAGE
Stopping power comes from four-wheel disc brakes.
