OVERVIEW
This 1939 Mercury Eight convertible is a custom-built street rod that receives power from a Chevrolet 350cid V8 paired with a Turbo 350 three-speed automatic transmission. It was treated to a restoration that included custom touches such as a Desoto front bumper, dual spotlights, shaved door handles, glasspack mufflers, and a modern sound system. Finished in red with airbrushed flames and equipped with a white removable Carson top over a two-tone red and white vinyl interior, this custom Mercury is now offered by the private seller with a clear title.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
This Mercury was previously sold on AutoHunter in 2022. Under prior ownership, the exterior was painted red with accent flames on the front clip. The cabin is covered by a removable white vinyl Carson top with zip-in windows. Features include a Desoto front bumper, spotlights, shaved door handles, a louvered hood, a chopped and beveled windshield, rear wheel skirts, louvered fenders, and a dual exhaust system with glasspack mufflers and flamethrowers. There are blemishes on the body that show wear consistent with older paintwork.
EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES
Steel body-color wheels with chrome "Hollywood flipper" hubcaps are wrapped in whitewall tires.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
The cabin is fitted with two-tone red and white vinyl bench seats and coordinating door panels, dash, and loop carpeting. Features include a two-tone Grant steering wheel, a vinyl shifter boot, a modern sound system, a clock, a custom skull shift knob, and “Foxy Lady” dash labeling. The seller notes this vehicle does not have factory air conditioning.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
Instrumentation includes a 110-mph speedometer and gauges for the coolant temperature, fuel level, oil pressure, and voltage. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 84,932 miles, which the seller reports to be accurate.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The Chevrolet 350cid small-block V8 is fed via triple two-barrel carburetors and directs power to the rear wheels via a floor-shifted Turbo 350 three-speed automatic transmission.
UNDERCARRIAGE
This Mercury is equipped with a nine-bolt rear end and rear coil-over shocks.
